yup, that's right. all you got to do is put a heaping teaspoon of salt in one cup of warm water and snort it up one nostril at a time until the fluid ends up in your mouth. it's kind of like an enema for your face. bon appetit!

I've been doing that for a while - use a neti pot or squeeze bottle that you can get at a drug store, use lukewarm water with a bit of salt (the drugstore kits have salt packets with the correct amount of salts) and squirt into my nostril until the water comes out the other nostril.

It removes a whole bunch of nasty junk from your sinuses. It's great if you have allergies - what better way to treat hay-fever than to physically remove the allergens that have been building up in your nose. It's really gross, but it works.

| Eligible for a custom title | Oh Em Gee! ![]() The pain! The pain! I can't stand nasal lavages. They hurt WAAAAY too much. Maybe my sinuses are too raw from the allergies, asthma, and former huffing habit I had when I was 13-15? Even plain water burns. I also have a hell of a time using nasal sprays for allergies, as a commonly used ingredient, rose hips, is another allergen of mine. :/ |

Only when I'm sick. And with a sea-water spray. May be once or twice a year. No allergies and I run, which clears sinus and nostrils as far as I can tell. Never thought of doing this on a regular basis. I clear y ears though, with a very very little spoon thingy.

A proper nasal lavage is done with salt water that more or less resembles seawater. Plain water just hurts like hell, don't do it. Use the correct amount of salt and it won't hurt. Also make sure it's lukewarm. Too cold or too hot and it will hurt.
