Talking Anime! ^_^

Surely there's a TON of otakus in the Linux community(since that's where most of us on this forum are from), so I thought I'd make my first post here to start the discussion of my #1 super fun hobby.

So... what's everyone watching right now? I'm currently making my way through The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and loving it. I just got to the video game contest episode... Priceless.

the real question is, do you prefer watching them in your language or its original(Japanese). sorry to say that even though i love Japanese i cant speak it or understand it for the life of me.

#1 fan hobby too.

I watch anime occationaly. It has to be reccomended to me by people I know tho. In the last 12 months I have watched a bit of Berserk, all of Ergo Proxy (Really good one. Loved the heavy philisophical references.), Elfen Lied (Another good one.), the Zone of the Enders one (Hated it...), and Fate Stay Night (Real good.).

And I prefer sub's. Unless it is something like Cowboy Bebop or Outlaw Star. They got some damn good US voice actors there.

Yay! Another Haruhiist! I actually just got the light novels recently (translated into Korean, but the two languages are so similar it's not even funny).

I actually haven't watched much anime recently but dubs are horrible. Subtitles are the only way to go for any type of foreign language audio, simply for the fact that most dubs are horribly done. Of course, the real reason you should always watch them subtitled is because it preserves the original piece the way it was envisioned by the artist. Ideally, you should learn Japanese (it's not that hard compared to most languages, really) but subtitles and translator's notes are the next best thing.

I'm watching Lucky☆Star right now and anxiously awaiting the next 2 episodes of Code Geass, which are due out in June.

For me, it's pretty much subs only unless the show has a good dub, like FMP or Super Gals!

Yes, Haruhi is an awesome show too, escpecially in the original aired order. My favorite episode was the one where Haruhi sings. Kyon's expression is great Very good show indeed!

I am currently watching Death Note, Darker than Black, and will soon start on Major (baseball anime). I am exclusively subs. I would not even consider watching the dubs. :x

Anything about anime I watch and like is being saved on a global NAS and 6 local extrenal hard drives. All of them are attached to my system and accesible to my beamer

Currently I am following (pn a weekly basis):
Claymore (hell of a series)
Nana
Death Note
Naruto
Bleach
Hayata no Gotoku
Sola
Lovely Complex
Lucky Star
Moonlight Mile
Nagasarete Airantou

You do not want to see a list of everything I've watched to last year.

I prefer japanese with dutch subtitles but have to settle for english subs

I'm not sure if it counts but Robotech was great when it was on. I also liked Rurouni Kenshin but the SamuraiX version was much better.

I used to watch a lot of anime, but I've kind of tuned it down now. Now days I mainly enjoy American TV shows and japanese doramas! Got to love doramas! Anyway, some of my favorites include:
1# Serial Experiments Lain
2# Haibane Renmei
Others: Genshiken, Hagane no Renkinjutsushi, Death Note, Haruhi, Azumanga Daioh, Elfen Lied (although really boring the second time), Shakugan no Shana etc.

2 years before when I met a Japanese woman, she told to me about manga series NANA, that is very popular in Japanese girls.
1 year after, I saw it in Anime series. It's very interesting to me, and I'm waiting for season 2.

Please do not forget that there's also a great Live Action based on the series!

I haven't been seriously into Anime since my tweens, but I enjoyed Cowboy Bebop, Gundam Wing, AKIRA (****OMG BEST MOVIE EVER***), and yes, I was a Dragon Ball Z fanatic around 10-12 years old...and I'm 18 now. Kinda grew out of the whole anime scene.

I never get the "growing out of it" thing. Unless you believe that "anime is for kids", which I completely disagree on, growing out of anime is like growing out of books. Anime is a medium, a way to deliver a story.

I guess it's also possible to get bored with references to things of another culture that you don't belong to and the constant stereotypes in the lesser shows.

PS: I'm not bashing you for losing interest in anime, I just don't understand how it happens

I guess I phrased that wrong, I considered it growing out, but I really just fell into other interests that took me away from anime.

My timeline of interests

Age 10-12: Anime | Age 12-15: FPS Gaming | Age 15-18: More gaming and web design
