Default Football...and not the American style

Just looking around, and being new here, why not? Any football fans in here? I'm not talking about the fuhtbawl version thats only played professionally in 2 countries (I don't remember if the NFL's Europe league is still around, but they don't count). I am talking about using your "foot" to kick the "ball".

If so, any favorite countries/leagues/teams/players?

Bigtime football fan here.

La Liga - FC barcelona
EPL - Tottenham
Bundesliga - Werder Bremen

I also occasionally watch Argentina and Scotland. No MLS, sadly. Just can't get into it. Ditto for Serie A, but I may try again next year.

I am also weird in that I do not like international football much. Give me club... especially La Liga and EPL.

Berbatov, Ledley King, Carlos Puyol, Joe Cole are amongst my favorites. I am sure there are more but I am not thinking right now.

I strongly dislike Real Madrid. Also do not like Arsenal much. :x

Oh yeah, forgot to post mine. Here we go:

Bundesliga - Bayern München, although I still like Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmund.
Eredivisie - Ajax (been watching them for many years)
EPL - Liverpool
SPL - Hibernian

I cannot stand any Spanish, especially Real Madrid, or any Italian clubs. And don't forget Man U; haven't liked them since the '99 final.

Love international football. Very big on Deutschland and Nederlands. I will never have any love for South American or any country that is associated with the Romance language, for that matter. I do have a fascination for Australia, Japan, and South Korea. Those people go crazy for this sport.

Maybe some decade, the US will start to get up there. I'm not holding my breathe though.

Cool. I was actually pulling for Bayern when Liverpool knocked out Barcelona. :x Van Bommel is a Barcelonista, of course. And Podolski is another huge fan of Barcelona. He said Bayern wanted to knock Madrid out for the fans of Barcelona and that they did.

The Eredivisie is cool. Very beautiful free-flowing football played in the Netherlands. It is sad that the league has basically become a training ground for the bigger leagues these days, but they still play some lovely football. I would watch it more if I could.

Cool about Hibs. My mate is a bigtime Hibs fan. I do not explicitly support any clubs because I do not follow it enough. I do support Celtic internationally in Europe, but I think the Old Firm is a cancer on the domestic league. Celtic and Rangers just have so many more resources at their disposal (which is fine), but the way they go about it is utter garbage. Like buying the other clubs top homegrown talent and then either not playing them or immediately loaning them out. Really hurts the league. The Old Firm is poison.

I actually do like Japan and South Korea internationally. I did say I do not like it, but I follow it anyway as a big soccer addict. Just the catenaccio and timid style of play on the international stage... or from European countries anyway... really disturbs me. Makes it a bore. Boo to defense.

It's too bad Poldi hasn't really done anything for Bayern this season. I somehow believe he isn't going to be there this coming Sept. A good place for him might actually be some mid-table club in England. He should adopt well, can match the game's pace, and is capable of scoring goals.

I agree with Old Firm being a poison. I've even been pulling for Hearts to at least take something away for either Glasgow clubs. And SPL isn't as much as a breeding ground for the bigger clubs anymore, like the Netherlands and France. It's a damn shame...

When I was living in Japan, it was very difficult to get into club football there, South Korea, and China. It was almost like watching MLS, at times worse. On the international level, those people go absolutely nuts, especially the Koreans. It's good for the game.

My favourite team is Bayern München. I use to watch every single match since 1997. It's quite sad they lost nearly all their big players in the recent years. I hope they will find some new ones in the next season.
Besides Bayern I like different teams who play a fast ball like Werder Bremen, Arsenal London etc...
It's quite hard to say who are my favourite players. I like every exceptional player, of course. The kind of player i probably like the most are players like Gattuso, Frings, Ballack and Essien. They are big fighters but also know how to handle the ball right.

@ hoagie:
The official name is Primera Division, i think.

It took me a while, but I finally figured out that you guys are talking about soccer. It is good that you all support women's sports.

Funny, I didn't interpret that name as 'troll'?

I don't think that's the game, exactly... but you never know.

BTW - ex Man U fan - while George Best was there! (anyone old enough to remember him?) but I only watch the internationals as a regular thing. S Korea, the Dutch, and our own team Canada are the watchables there - and the US was a few years ago - could be again. Would love to cheer for England, but they don't seem to stay in it long enough to cheer for !

MLS - we'll see. At least the Toronto team managed to score now - *THREE TIMES*. Maybe I'll watch that now that it's easy (used to play - poorly)

I'm British so as we invented the game it's hard to avoid it. I live in Portsmouth so I follow PFC.

Today is the last day in the Premiership and Pompey is playing Arsenal kicking off at 3:00PM at Fratton Park.

Pompey have the smallest and oldest ground on the premiership. It is known as the loudest ground so a lot of teams don't like playing there. They recently announced a new stadium, it's very controversial for many reasons. Mainly because it's going to be over the water! Portsmouth is an island and Europe's most densely populated city, land is in very short supply.

Poor guy It's understandable you don't like/know male football (don't get me wrong, female football is great, too) ... better ignoring the game instead of being jealous of successful teams :-p

Hrm. What do you mean? You do know there are domestic leagues and competitions in each country that exist independent of UEFA competitions. Why WOULDN'T someone who likes a team in the EPL also like a team in La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, etc. IF they enjoy that league? The domestic competitions have nothing to do with continental play. Also the leagues all have very different styles. Dutch soccer is nothing like Italian soccer which is nothing like English soccer. And while I agree the Champions League is the biggest stage in club football bar none, I personally find the domestic leagues more gut-wrenching and exciting (at least when there is a battle). Winning a league over a 34-38 game season is more exciting to me than a Group + Knockout competition, but that is just me.

Also Chelsea have yet to win the Champions League or even accomplish a legitimate 'double.' They won the League Cup in 2005, but whoop dee do. :P The big double is Prem Title + FA. So while they may be the best on paper, they have NEVER ever proven it on the pitch and might never do so.

Just to make it clear: I am a fan of Bayern München, no doubt. But that doesn't mean that I can't esteem other teams and their way of playing. I like certain aspects of behaviour outside of the field and certain ways of playing the game and this is what makes me feel sympathy for other teams as well as for Bayern München.
