| A news report says that the old reliable wrist watch that we've been using and have been accustomed to for many decades, may become obsolete and may be phased out of production! All because people, especially young children, are supposedly relying on their cell phones as a source for keeping in step with knowing what time of day it is. An independent survey that was conducted has reported that when young children, teens and adults were asked for the time, the first thing that they did was take their cell phones out of their pockets and said that they don't wear watches. Hardly any of them were wearing a wrist watch. Last edited by Daquan13 : 03-22-2008 at 08:22 PM. |

| I stopped wearing a watch years ago unless on some special outing that makes it a good idea e.g. have appointments to keep, or planes to catch. I don't think I've put one on at all since traveling back from overseas over 2 years ago. I do have a mobile phone, but rarely remember to charge it let alone take it with me when I go out. When I want to know the time I look at the computer, or the microwave or stove, depending whether I'm in the living room or the kitchen For crawling out of bed to get up for work on time I do have a digital clock in the bedroom too. |

| We may not see that happen right away. It's just speculation at this point. |

| I wear a watch and I'm 17 years old. I've been wearing one for years now. I think I've worn one since I was 11 or 12 years old. If they do get phased out, then that will be sad. I'll personally at least try to keep a few that work so I can continue to wear them after that. |

| Stirrer Of Shit | Its less trouble for me to look at the watch on my wrist than dig out my cell phone. |

| Me three. Plus, my watch is radio controlled. It sets itself with the Atomic clock (soon to be even more accurate) so I never have to set it. It even updates automatically for daylight savings time (no need for firmware upgrades when DST get changed). I plan to keep on wearing mine and get a new one when this one fries. |

| I don't think they even make those any more. I'm not sure if they even make self-winds any more Timex used to be a big seller of them. Last edited by Daquan13 : 04-18-2008 at 07:16 AM. |

| I'm sure that it won't be long before mobile phones are able to be designed and built small enough to realistically be used as a wrist watch. Perhaps that will bring about a revival. |

| There already an OLED prototype. It's a thin, flexible plastic that can be wrapped around your wrist. The whole thing acts as the screen. I estimate about 4-5 years before it gets to market. |

They practically are now. Only thing is, they're too big for your wrist. But not everyone can afford those. Timex once offered a watch that could be linked to your computer. Last edited by Daquan13 : 04-18-2008 at 07:30 AM.

| I disagree. Whenever something revolutionary gets put on the market (like say the iPhone?) it gets popular real quick because so many people want the latest and greatest and sleekest looking devices. |

I'm sure they will sell millions the first day they release them. The iPhone was like $400 when it went on sale and people HAD TO HAVE IT. So I am sure that a paper-thin, semi-transparent, flexible, wrist-worn phone would be all the rage. Even if it is $600 when it comes out.
