| I brought a Vonage router from the US to Morocco with me and it works well...except sometimes it doesn't ring as if the signal is being blocked, which is possible, I suppose. Google Earth and OpenDNS are both known and confirmed to be blocked by my ISP. |

| I have a BT Fussion phone which acts a normal mobile when Im 250M away from home and a DECT phone at home utilising either VOIP or my standard fixed line depending on how I dial out and to be honest I cant really tell the difference between the VOIP, mobile or fixed line service the quality of the calls are very very similar. |

| Just getting started | I recently got a sipgate.at account (sipgate.at is a local voip-provider)for the moment i use a softphone, but i consider buying a voip-phone or an adapter for my analog telephone. i think voip is the future and i'll start using it as long it is hot ![]() |

| Just getting started | It's funny how people communicate, I myself have good VOIP capabilities on my mobile phone and limitless data transfer, so I could use it everywhere I go. Instead I prefer all kinds of text based communication over oral communication; SMS, Skype chat (on my mobile), MSN (very seldom) and when at home I use mostly IRC. |

| I have gathered number of VoIP accounts and DIDs. The main one is on an SPA3102 the others are connected to it via Asterisk on Ubuntu. It's not the usual setup but it lets me play with the server without upsetting most of my VoIP calls. |

| I use Vonage as well, works great, no problems, except for maybe some issues w/the router. Every so often the light farthest to the right'll blink red, prompting a restart VIA the web config. Other than that, it works great. Nice sound quality even when i'm downloading crap off the 'net. |

| Discussion starter | Vonage. Beautiful stuff. I only have problems when I'm downloading from a BitTorrent, but then I set a high priority on my router for the Vonage box. |

You can also buy $10 worth of minutes if you don't do a lot of talking. Kind of like a pre-paid cell phone plan, except cheaper. ![]() Gizmo is better then Skype, IMHO, because they focus on voice as a #1 priority instead of new shiny big features all the time. That's why they don't have video yet. Or why their text chatting is still primitive. If you want video chat, there are plenty of other good open-source software that does the job well, but Gizmo's the best for voice. Last edited by javaJake : 05-13-2007 at 08:08 PM. | |

| The Barsteward, that DECT phone you use, how is it? I've seen them advertised in some local retail stores, but because they are so new I'm not sure how they are. I've got to replace an aging GE 2.4ghz phone and shopping for a new cordless that won't interfere with my wireless system is something that tops my list. And oh yeah, my VoIP is EarthLink TrueVoice. No problems with it either. |

| Eligible for a custom title | The only VoIP I have experience with is Skype, but to a limited extent. And there was that one time I talked with a friend in Scotland with MSN. Both weren't that good for me, but it's due to my connection. I am connected on a 56k dial up line that loves to irritate me and run at 20k or less (ATM it's doing about 14k and that has been it's top speed for the last week). Then there's that whole thing of me being shy, even though a friend in Brighton says I have a sexy voice. ![]() |

| I would like to use VoIP, but the major problem is that I'm on a dialup connection, and probably will be for the near future. I know that Skype won't work with it, is there any that will? I do not care about any extra features, only being able to use it for verbal communications. |

| All that I know about Skype, is that when I used the test call feature, the voice at the other end sounded like Max Headroom having a sneezing fit. I asked about this on their forum, and another member said that some friends of his had dialup, and they had to speak very slowly otherwise they would be ilegible. I suppose that might be okay in an emergency situation, but it isn't anything that I want. Most, if not all dialup voice modems have been discontinued. What I have is a Creative Modem Blaster DE5621. I have had a problem even finding a telephone management system that would work with it, even without VoIP. BVRP Phone Tools is incompatible, and Supervoice won't even install on my system. It claims that it can't find a com port. I figure that somewhere, something must work. |
