basicly a long tube that acselarates protons then crashes them into etch other. thay are trying to find a partical called a higsposon, witch will hopfaly complete the standerd modal. persanaly i think the standerd modal is probaly wrong, people uset to think the atom was the fundimental particle, so therre might be somthing making up quarks etc Last edited by hessiess : 05-13-2007 at 01:51 PM.

| There will be one green scientist in the corner yelling "Hulk smash". Not sure it will "prove" much in true sceintific proof terms. It will provide confimation evidence (or not) for many theories but it takes a lot to get absolute proof. |

| here is a 48 minutes documentary on the LHC by the BBC BBC.Horizon.The.Six.Billion.Dollar.Experiment. - Google Video nice poll results btw ... it looks like we finally found an issue we all agree on ![]() (100% voted 'will solve old questions but make twice as meny new ones' as i write this) Last edited by c.dric : 05-17-2007 at 08:13 PM. |

| The main reason for LHC is to prove the existence of the Higgs particle, I guess. Then there is also the possibility of finding some more hint that what we do in String theory. Answers to questions like "Are there supersymmetric 'mirror' particles?" and "Does black holes leak gravity into other dimensions?". Since some of you gave some links to enlighten people of the subject, I'll do the same. Recently I wrote a small paper about supersymmetry, if you are interested to get introduces to the subject: http://www.isv.uu.se/~rathsman/group...ack-report.pdf (some quantum mechanics and/or group theory is recommended) Personally I hope they don't find the Higgs particle. If they didn't, all physicists would have *A LOT* to do (that would be fun ). And I don't think they will find anything relating to supersymmetry. |

| large hadron collider you mean? and pp collisions? its just another particle accelerator similar to CERN just that its currently under construction. in which physicist hopes to find an answer to supersymmetry and string theory and other sub atomic particles |

String theory is (for now) unexperimentable . Which makes it kind of a fantasy. (Do not misunderstand me as in I am not respecting the work done on strng theory but "I am oldschool" no experiment means fantasy to me).
