Default Drill Baby Drill

So who owns all this oil in Alaska that Sarah Palin wants to drill?

While it won't affect the price or consumption much, I'm more bothered by the moral aspect of sucking ever last drop of oil from the planet and burning it.

There's an old Native American saying: we don't inherit the Earth from our ancestors but borrow it from our children. I'm sure not all the tribes thought this way, but we never really heard as much from the dissenters, because they self-extinguished themselves with short-sighted piggishness.

Do we have a moral right to suck dry every last drip of oil from the planet? Sure we need it for building blinking sneakers and scented toilet paper, but what will future generations need it for?

I guess it'll be up to them to find their own way and technology. I've heard that theres plenty of oil in the ground to last forever, but I doubt the validity of that statement.

We really don't seem to be long term thinkers.

The here and now isn't as bad as we think, one day at a time is all any of us can actually do. The biggest part on our behalf is to be more conservative on an individual basis. If people were, it would be a step in the right direction. The wave of (its all about me) has ruined our future prospects of a healthy direction and which way to go. Too many Indians and not enough Chiefs. Too many choices and positions drowning out the voice of reason, all extending from moral decline in some fashion or another. So tomorrow doesn't look to good for anyone at this point.
