Default Baggy Pants; What do you think about the Teens Who Wear Them?

What do any of you think about teens and some men who like to wear baggy pants?

Several cities and states would like to outlaw this practice. It was a big topic here in Boston not too long ago.

I have no problem with it as long as their butts aren't showing.

But then again, some of them look nice wearing them. Teens especially - high school kids. I've seen some of them showing their butts, but they probably don't know.

Today's society though is a whole lot different from the days when WE were in school. Jeans were not allowed back then. Makes you wonder if they'll fall down from around their waists or thighs.

I'm sure some of the stuff I wore when I was a teen looked stupid to older people, I keep that in mind when I say those kids that wear them look like morons. Imbeciles.

Of course, I think we all know where this practice came from; The rap singers, mainly Tupac Shakur before he was murdered.

They wouldn't look so bad though, if the kids kept them clean!
Some of them look so dirty, that it's pathetic.

I once saw an obese 13-year-old boy wearing them, and his butt was actually showing above them as he sat down!! I wanted so bad to ask him to hide his butt.

I was too afraid to for fear that he might start a war. He more than likely would have stirred up controversy! Who knows whether or not if he didn't have a gun or knife in his pocket?

Now if I were to ask him to pull up his pants, he probably would have ask why am I looking at his butt when I couldn't help BUT notice it while he was sitting. Then he would have proceded to make a scene in front of everyone, start accusing me of trying to pick him up.

And then, he would have threatened me, looking for an excuse to fight. It's not worth it. Kids these days. They'll do just about anything to start controversy!!

Hey Daquan
You seemed to have cover all the areas of defence in your possible approaches, and I am but sure they apply. So many kids need attention and love..they are starving for it..we live in a generation of parents ( not all ) who say do as you will, become what you want..and no rules. God knows these kids need discipline and assurance to really feel alive and whole, so many of us parents have dropped the ball here. They will do almost anything, wear anything to feel accepted. I see it all over to, and I must say, the females are exotically attractive like magnets, however I do not condone that type of clothing, its putting these young women into a more than likely predicated danger of sorts. I seldom see guys who actually show the buttox area, just where you see their shorts. I think they are less apt to be this confronting in their attire. We did have a day as well when we too were ( riska ) remember? but todays world is different than yesterdays world, we too were the bump in the road that had parents aloof to why we wore what we did and did what we did. The apparel is much more extreme..who knows what may come around again, maybe the 60's look, anything goes...I never did see where the jeans that had the buttox yanked out and skin showing surfaced, wait till they gut up and do this..two buns literally hanging out for all to see,,that was about 10 years ago when it was thought to happen.

Yeah, the last thing that I wanted was to get into an argument with that boy. His weight and size is not appropriate for that type of attire, but if I were to tell him that, he'd would be ready to come over to me and beat me up or something!!

It's dangerous these days to get into any type of confrontation with these kids about their controversially inappropriate behavior.

Though I find it very disgusting and appauling for him to act that way, there is little or nothing that can be done to get him to change his mean and nasty ways.

We can only hope that he does. And try to work on the younger kids and persuade THEM to be better and more respectable. That's why I'm glad that I'm tutoring the kids at school in hopes that THEY don't fall victim to the maniacal ways of the older kids today. Especially my little buddy!!

But we all know that this type of style comes from the gangbanger style of popular rap singers.

Yes, it's related to the 'rap' culture. Doesn't bother me greatly - if I had to pass a judgment I would say I have nothing against the bagginess at all, but wearing them so low they are in danger of falling down makes one look a bit idiotic. Then again I think the whole concept of fashion (a massive industry built around the desire to look good/trendy in the eyes of other people) is more than a touch idiotic. Certainly a large percentage of what gets shown on the catwalks in fashion shows, which get brief coverage in TV news, seems to look equally as silly as wearing your pants half way down your ass.

I'm personally more interested in comfortable clothes that I like, than worrying about the perceptions of others.

Oh. How so?

This is not as irrelevent as you think it might be.

It's not so much the style or the baggy pants themselves, but rather the pure lack of respect that the kids are blatently displaying to their elders by showing their butts to people. They might just as well be saying to everyone; "Kiss my ass!!".

I've absolutely NOTHING against the pants, but how would you like it if you were dining at a restaurant restuarant and a kid sat near you with half of his bare butt showing? Or your own kids? How would you feel then?

Private parts are just that - PRIVATE - and they are NOT meant to be displayed in public!! If they wore long T-shirts over the pants like some of the kids do, then that's not so bad at all.

Yeah, the kids I know in my area wear baggy pants, but at least they got the decency to wear a long T-shirt over them so that nothing private is showing.

There you go again, saying something perfectly agreeable. In my life I've seen bell bottoms, or whatever they're called in fashion, then it went clear to the tapered leg pants, and now its full circle back to bell bottoms. To hell with trying to keep up. It just seems silly watching these kids wear stuff they think is cutting edge, when I can remember when it was the thing, then I can remember when the same stuff would have made them look like a dork.

The nice thing about getting older and settled down (and/or thinking for yourself) is not having to worry about what other people think.

The other thing that is funny is the people standing in line to get holes punched through various parts of their body so they can flaunt their individuality.

Typically, the style the kids so happily like to engage in today, has pretty much gone to hell in a hen basket.

But Kevmartin IS right; this style DID get started from the rap culture.

I personally think its just the times..but one must be aware of over exposure in a world of people that are very different for the years past as to how we view and see and think in todays world..move forward with caution..be expressive in your apparel, add character, but do it in moderation..self expression is beautiful..but well sorry sex aholics< are everywhere..thats why I say move with caution..

I wouldn't want to show my "private parts" in the US either, I don't want to get arrested.

US-Americans should get a little self control and stop caring for what other people wear or don't wear. I thought it'd be the land of the free, and not the "land of the free unless don't look like we want you to look"

Well whatever, there is more serious stuff going on in your country (or in every country for that matter) and it's imho almost grossly negligent being so nitpicking. Not only you, generally speaking.
If you're afraid of a thirteen year old shooting you because you ask him to pull up your pants you should really, really reconsider.

Julian

You've just answered your own question with your 1st. sentense.

Let one of YOUR kids get arrested for showing his butt while wearing his baggy pants, and see how YOU would feel.

Teens today as in the past, are supposed to be role models for the younger kids. How's that supposed to look when they got their butts hanging out of their clothes? Even though they are wearing underwear, their butts are STILL considered as being exposed! I wouldn't want my butt showing or my underwear.

I never asked the 13-year-old boy to pull up his pants. I thought about it, but that doesn't mean that I said it. If a boy will shoot a teacher for disiplining him, he'll most likely shoot anyone else.

But when he got up to get off the train, his butt was showing big time, and his underwear was nowhere to be seen!!! Now THAT RIGHT THERE is indecent exposure!

This is all part of the gangbanger image. If kids can walk around wearing their pants halfway off their butts and pack guns or knives, then what should or would you do as a parent?

"Oh. My 13-year-old son walks around dressed as he damn-well pleases and he carries a gun with him. He terrorizes innocent people, then he comes home and terrorizes me! His butt shows through his clothes. I'm too afraid to do anything to try to stop him, or he might shoot me. My 8-year-old son wants to be just like him when HE'S 13."

Put foot in butt!! Not hit him or beat him. Put your foot down and show him some tough love is what you do. He wouldn't get away with that in boot camp!!

Hi MRiGnS
ok, it appeared as though I said it, yes I am still having an issue with the quotes, idiosyncrasy, sorry about that.

Yes for lack of a better term..I suppose sex offenders..we learned it as sex-aholics in 12 step, I hope the term in not offensive...just what I learned..it is to say..they are in the world and fed more than ever through many different pipe-lines, and all the beauty to behold, especially the female population..then it is wise to be cautious in our apparel, expressive but dont do it to the point of utter magnification for this type of sickeness..then again I suppose anything goes, point being..dont take chances..

That's it - sex offenders!!

Anyone who does this, has their butts showing while wearing their baggy pants, they should be called out and branded as sex offenders for not keeping their butts hidden.

Charge them with a misdemeaner and hand them a citation. I bet they'll stop showning their butts then!

I think what bothers Daquan13 more than anything is the lack of respect that teens show towards there elders. In this point I totally agree. But in my opinion this is because of people like Daquan13 himselve, people who are affraid to speak up to 13 year old boys to raise their pants. I must admit that I am not an American, so I don't know if the situation over there is really that bad that when making a request like this men must fear for their lives. I think it wouldn't have been inappropriate at all to ask the boy to make himself decent as he is in a public area. He would probably be more emberrased than angry but that's all just my guesses really. I don't see wearing baggy clothes as a sign of lack in respect, it's a fashion thing. Do you think it is respectless when people wear a cap? or when people wore denim Levi jeans... whas that because they wanted to show their dislike to their elders or was it just to fit in... to be trendy? So my point is, get over it. You are misinterpretting the whole bagginess. And next time try to make a decent respectfull comment in a situation like that. Don't fear the kids, but love them enough to correct them when necessary.

Just my opinion,

Oni
