Yes, either haifway off their butts, just below or falling off their butts - hence, I imagine, the reason for the ultra-long T-shirts to keep their butts and underwear hidden.

It's a fad that won't go out of style with the teens and it won't because it looks like it'll be around for many, many many years to come!

The small little boys today in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade will be donning the attire even before they reach 12 or 13!

Part of today's culture and society.

It makes you look bigger I guess. And especially (no racist) in black culture where most are lower-middle class and poor, being big is something to be desired. When you're on the streets with your gangsters it gets you respect, and chicks.

You gotta watch out for those coccasions.

I also saw a small child wearing baggy shorts as well today!

Proof of what i said earlier about little kids donning the attire. Seems like they all have baggymania.

For a different take on this, I saw a suggestion on a TV show that analyses advertising in an entertaining way, that it was all started by Calvin Klein. That there is a correlation between when this started and the Calvin Klein ad campaigns on TV (starting with who was then 'Marky Mark' I think), and Writing the brand name of underwear on the outside of the garment instead of the inside.

Most definitely the 'loose pants' thing is not a thing restricted to one racial or economic group. Rich, white kids do it too. Maybe there is a correlation with low intellect or gullibility (my personal interpretation).

Has it already been mentioned that there was a study showing baggy pants causes hip and back problems?

The only thing that I can make out of that is the fact that the kids have to tighten their belts so much so, to keep the pants from falling, since they like to wear them halfway or practically below or off their butts.

It may cause nerve pinching at the hips and backaches. Or hip pains.

It's the way you have to walk to keep your pants up IIRC. Your hip isn't supposed to have to do that; it causes strain. As an experiment find some loose fitting pants yourself and try to walk around without them falling off.

I've done that already. Been there, done that, still doing it.

My pants are a bit larger that my actual size, especially the jeans. Since the belt is either too tight or too lose,, I'm forced to wear them baggy-style, but not all the way off my butt.

I've come to the realization that I can't have the belt too tight, or my hips will start hurting.

This sounds OK in theory, but I think after a certain point there must be quite an 'artform' in achieving this with pants that are too big by THAT big a margin.

Over the weekend while in Providence, I saw some lesbians wearing baggy pants at the Gay Pride Festival there.

And just for kicks and giggles, I, YES, I, wore loose black sweatpants that were almost falling off of me, so I wore them baggy-style, along with a very long blue T-shirt so that no one would see my butt!!

Just to see what it was like, and you know something? Maybe I've gone soft, but IT FELT SO GOOD!!!

I got a lot of compliments for acting like a teenager, and I just might do it again!! Some of them said that I look like a gangbanger!! It made me feel young again!! Haha!!

And BTW, I've seen some teens with their hands in their pockets so that their baggy pants don't fall down. That's one way to keep them on and not let them get too low!

One thing that struck me is way back in the days I went to school, and I suspect also still today to an extent, here in Australia, amongst younger, school age kids, if you wore pants that were THAT loose, some practical joker would be sure to sneak up behind you and pull them down around your knees.

I guess in America doing that would most likely get you stabbed.

I think they've graduated from knives to illegally obtained firearms.

That scenerio also happened in the movie Weird Science.

And I was thinking about that same thing when I was wearing my sweatpants baggy-style over the weekend!

Actor Marlon Wayans wore baggy pants in the comedy film "Don't be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood".

Unfortunately, true to their sheepish form, Australian kids are starting to carry knives now in serious numbers (guns are hard to come by here being as they are not widespread in the community). Many also think they are being cool by emulating moron gangsta-rapper-types from the USA in any way they can.

I'm all for freedom of speech and all that, but honestly that rubbish they call music/art seems criminal in itself to me by way of the incitefulness factor it has through culture.

Well, I'd say blame Tupac Shakur, but sadly, he's not with us.

But there are other controversial rappers like Snoop Dogg, Nazz and others who still like to do gangbanger rap and wear baggy pants.

But be that as it may, baggy pants are here to stay!

Hey! I just rymed that. I'm a poet and didn't even know it!!

I'm afraid I fail to see what's sad about that.

Are you saying that you're happy that he's dead?

If so, then what a cruel thing to say! He might not have been everyone's favorite rap star, but he did have a lot of fans, as most stars in show biz usually do.

And he DID help kick off the baggy pants fad. So, even though he's sadly gone, his legacy LIVES ON with billions of teens when they dress up wearing baggy pants, boots and long T-shirts. It's a trend that will hopefully NEVER go away.

And guess what? His music is STILL making money!! Love him or hate him, he was a great star!

I saw a picture today of Jamie Foxx wearing baggy pants!

Who would have ever thought that HE would ever don the attire?
