I've only heard vaguely of him in second hand contexts such as your post in this thread. Apparently he isn't considered very newsworthy in Australia. Coverage of the US election here doesn't extend that deep I guess, probably because the candidates still haven't been chosen. Once they are selected, I expect significant analysis of them will increase in the media.

Jeremiah Wright is not a candidate for any office so far as I know. You'll find a bunch of stuff on him in youtube.

I mentioned candidacy because the only context I have heard of him in is in relation to Obama. Does he have some other claim to fame or reason to be noticed? Sorry, trawling YouTube is not something I like to waste my time on.

I don't blame you. Yes, like I said in my original post, he is associated with Obama. He's basically an unhinged, crazy, religious extremist, whom Obama called his spiritual advisor and mentor.

With correlating views from the two of you, I am happy to accept he's not someone worthy of any investigation unless some need to do so comes up in another context. If Obama has called him "his spiritual advisor and mentor" is another interesting point though - I would expect something like that to get a lot of media attention, and for Obama to have been pretty much forced to seriously defend his statement to that effect publicly. Has that happened?

As for YouTube, Sherri I am sure you are right that there is good content on there, but it's digging for it that takes time (a commodity I am very very short on), and even if it was used as a specific tool to search for specific content, I find searching for text content to be a fast way to find the information I need, and suspect that YouTube video would be a slower way to find less reliable info. I only ever go there to look for something very very specific that would be of a video format by necessity. Say for example, if I wanted to review the Rodney King beating footage for some reason.

What has happened with Obama and his pastor, and the media has followed right along, is he initially defended his pastor tooth and nail. Then he did a complete turn-around and denounced him. What's worse than the poor judgement he displayed by associating with an angry extremist, is all the lies he told to sugar coat the thing.

Kind of gives one the idea he may be getting into politics without serious political advisors to help him make decisions. He should have recognised the guy as a potential problem from the start, and not necessarily denounced him, but made some kind of qualifications on his agreements with him.

Good analysis. And that says a lot about his judgement and leadership ability.
