That all depends on the individual person and whether they have children who are presently attending 2nd grade.

Some feel that this age and grade may be a little bit too early.

But what was considered to be banned from being taught in elementary school now, has been unbanned by the Gay/Lesbian Rights Movement. So it appears that it may be OK.

A catchcry among many parents everywhere I'm sure. But it's entirely subjective and raises the question of what is really 'best'. If a parent teaches there children to hate Jews, or black people, or white people, or Muslims, etc, would that be 'best for their children', simply because the parent thinks so? How about if they raise their kids from day one to one day be suicide bombers?

I wonder why we can't just ask the second graders what they want to have read, and respect their decision. Or is it just a given, in our culture, that kids are the subject of conversation, but not a participant?

It is totally wrong for any parent to teach their kids to hate others! That's being a total ignorant racist!

Just because THEY might hate a person's color, race, religion,
sexual preference or nationality, it doesn't mean that their kids should.

Ok, you convinced me. All kids should be taken away from their parents at birth and institutionalized by the government "highly trained professionals" so everyone will be the same and we can avoid all the unpleasantries. Can we implement this plan by starting with the parents that are strapping bomb belts on thier children? Or are the ones that don't like homosexual fairy tales the greater threat?

As usual, your 'black and white coloured glasses' are showing through. You don't think there is any position between the two extremes.

Yes, let's bash all teachers because of the absolute minority that shed bad light on the profession. Teacher bashing is like a national sport these days. It makes me sick to the stomach to see such vitriolic generalizations and vilifications being made.

Ooooh, gee, did I gore your sacred cow? No one said anything about bashing all teachers, I just showed that these "highly trained professionals" that are treated as infallible, that some believe can better choose what we want for our kids than parents by the religion of big government liberalism are no such thing. Examples were given of bad parenting, I provided an example of a bad teacher.

And anyway, save your bullshit indignation, if that were a Catholic priest standing there who'd fondled boys, you'd be all over it.

You know what strikes me as ironic, is that people will smoke a pipe in front of their kids, but then don't want them to hear a story at school with a gay person in it. Even ignoring the carcinogenic fumes, I think anyone can see a pipe is a phallic object. Turn it upside down and take an honest look at it. I mean for Christ sake, sucking on a pipe?! It's a surrogate penis. What lesson is being taught here?

By this logic, if you like a little salt or pepper on your dinner, you should like it even better if you dump a kilogram on the plate.

Speak for yourself - you may think that it's sensible to generalize that since there have been cases of pedophilia from Catholic priests, therefore all Catholic priests are pedophiles - but I certainly don't. The same obviously applies to school teachers. Using your same generalization technique, why restrict it to a profession? What's wrong with generalizing upon the whole nation, or gender, or species? By which token all Americans, men or humans are pedophiles.

The validity of generalization seems to me to be in inverse proportion to the sample size (in ratio to the target group). This is why it's not valid to say "George Bush is an idiot, therefore Americans are idiots" - sample size of 1, target group of 300 million (just so I'm not seen to be American-bashing, feel free to substitute in "John Howard" and Australians if it makes you feel any better).

It just occurred to me what a puerile waste of time this discussion is. I mistakenly thought this forum was about engaging in intelligent discussions about topics of interest. Instead it degenerates to meaningless swearing and supposition to really ram home the killer blow. Bravo

You're the ones saying you can't tolerate anything but complete acceptance of homosexual lifestyles to include indoctrinating children with controversial gay fairy tale books when there are plenty of neutral ones to choose from. You're the ones who don't like the idea of a few kids here and there being brought up by parents with a less than ideal worldview. Don't give me shit about all or nothing.

It was your strawman that was the waste of time. Don't bitch about the lack of intelligent discussions when all you're capable of is false arguments.
