Default The politically incorrect religion poll.

Normally polls about religious belief or non-belief provide a fairly binary choice, an "I BELIEVE!" or "no way!". I'm more curious what is the degree of religiousness (or is it "religiosity"?) amongst a intelligent group, like the denizens of this site.

So here goes. Please avoid pro/con atheist/zealot discussions. I'd like it to be more about increasing our understanding about how deeply entwined people are with religious beliefs. If this is too uncomfortable or just a dumb idea for a topic, please feel free to delete it. I'm trying not to push a particular point of view.

The poll options are intended to be in degree of impact order, hopefully eliminating the need for multiple choice.

Nice try and all, but I couldn't find a single answer that represents me by itself. I just don't think you can pidgeon hole any particular set of spiritual beliefs. Even had this been a "choose all that apply" type of poll instead a "which one of these" type, you still would have been eons from being able to supply enough options to begin coming close to doing any sincere set of spiritual beliefs justice.

Basically the options are choose atheist, agnostic, or an option that just pegs you as being spiritual but defines nothing.

Doesn't surprise me. I think there are different degrees for how much impact religion has on people, but they're probably poorly captured by the poll (or probably any poll). It might have been better to just use numbers on a sliding scale, rather than descriptions.

I voted the option that goes closest to my belief system, even though it wasn't exactly right. For one, I don't really believe in a "divine being" in the sense that most would interpret that term.

You left out "I believe all religions, as well as other beliefs in the supernatural, can be attributed to a complete inability to properly attribute causation". So I do see a cause for people believing in that stuff, I just think it proves they're... ahh.... a bit challenged.

You said it much better than I did.

Why didn't you vote "no basis for any religion?"

I voted as close as I could, according to my beliefs.

I'm not exactly sure what you want to discuss here though. Peoples beliefs are probably fairly firmly entwined... regardless of how deeply religious a person is. maybe I misunderstood your first post.
Faith is the truth of passion. Since no passion is more true than another, faith is the truth of nothing.

When did I say there was no basis for religion? Believing there's no basis for a thing and believing that a thing is based on faulty assumptions are two different things.
