Default Newegg Bans The Bible

I am a Christian that has long felt a calling to use internet forums for the purpose of representing Christian values to the people most in need of them. Thus, I tend to focus on nonbelievers of all catagories. Obviously, this tends to cause conflicts at times, but I always try to handle them in a Christian fashion.

With this in mind, I joined the EggXpert Forum, which is an offshoot of newegg.com, which I have found to be one of the better sources to purchase computer related items online. In fact, I am a founding member of the forum, and had no problems there until recently, when a couple of antagonists in the debate forum took their dislike for me, which was simply based on my faith, and started trolling me throughout the forums boards.

As a device to annoy me, they made formal complaints to the forum adminstration about my signaturebar (which contained the same biblical quote as my signature does here), and said that it was offensive, and wanted it removed. I have been a member of many different forums, most of which were not Christian, and never has anyone suggested that this verse is offensive. Even at this forum, most of the members thought that it was acceptable. But the forum admin was obviously only interested in appeasing these two people, who had post many, many lies, and statements that were without question, offensive to any reasonable person, Christian or not. I know that most anyone reading this has seen similar things themselves.

Despite support from the membership of the forum, the admin demanded that I remove the signaturebar, which I refused, because that would be saying that the verse or any quote from the Bible was offensive, and that I shall never do.

Without going into long details about the sequence of PMs in this regards (which made no progress), I was banned from the forum entirely. This was after a separate PM with another member, in which I advised him that if the issue were forced any further, that I would contact every Christian forum on the web, and advise them of the situation. I told him that he could advise the admin about this if he saw fit, but didn't really care, because I had ceased discussion with the admin after many hours of discussion.

Why am I posting this here? Because I believe that both Christian and nonChristians deserve to know how any company will treat them, before doing business with them.

I did not post this to start any debate or to obtain any advice, except in terms of posting, as I stated in the beginning. But, I wouldn't mind hearing how others feel, and perhaps Newegg might be interested also.

Newegg.com - Buy Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!

For some reason, this forum displays the link in a fashion that it shouldn't, but it is actually to their public relations department.

Nor could I could access my control panel, so here is the verse in question:

Be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger James 1:19

Since this verse is fairly benign, does anyone see a reason that the Biblical reference is offensive?

seems unreasonable that you get banned for that quote, but i fee=ar it was also in part of the fact that you argued so much (makes admins unhappy)

i personally dont see any offence (dont belive in any type of censorship either)

I know the difference between justice and revenge.

I don't think it's justice reporting that to all Christian forums so they spam that particular forum. That's just cheap and immature.

And actually I think the threat was the trigger for the ban.

Why do you feel the need to push your values onto others in the first place? Fair enough you can have a signature and believe what you want but by focusing on "non-believers" I dont blame them.

Well, if all was as you put across, then they were definitely wrong for how they acted towards you and them reporting your signature seems utterly rediculous (it's a good quote whether you're religious or not), however, it's understandable why they did harass you. I'm sure it was a case of them feeling harassed in the first place and simply doing the same in return.

As for the admin, well, the idea that he wanted it removed seems preposterous, but I'm sure being banned was down more to the argument (in which we don't know what was said) than the signature, as he could have simply disabled it.

What was your name on that forum, and do you have links to discussion where you where harassed? Since you are going around posting this, you could at least provide that info.

IMO there is no such thing as "Christian values" just one that Christians hold.. And their relation to the bible is purely symbolical. Taking anything in the bible literally seems crazy from what i have heard. Yeah, hearsay; i am too lazy to read it.

Maybe the admin hates Christians, but it would help it if you would post exactly what you and the admin said to each other.

I read the post and don't see seekermeister seeking revenge. Also I can't see how a passage from the Bible can be offensive. Forums are a place where we can express opinions and share ideas. A signature is an expression of yourself and seekermeister's is no more offensive than a quote by Ghandi, Sun Tzu or Marx.

While I believe that it was unfair of the admin to ban seekermeister, the best response would be to follow another biblical passage:

If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town. - Matthew 10:14

Arguing and pushing the issue will not help, and in some cases just push someone to strike back. Has this admin banned other Christians on the forums showing a history of this kind of censorship?

I think that this verse would be very offensive to anyone un-wanting of earnest listening, reliant on fast talk, and in need of forcing his or her anger on others for devious reasons. Oh and of course many people caught in certain social head games would find this offensive at the time of their political profiteering.

Did you come here fishing for people to join your "cause" or whatever, or do you plan on participating here? I suspect the former, but hope for the later.

I'm about tired of people coming here to spam.

How did you find out about this forum anyway?

If, by chance, you did come here to participate, and that was just a weird introduction post - welcome. I'm sure you'll find a lot of open mindedness and tolerance for you and your views.

Don't worry about the oddity of that post to much seekermeister, Rasczak tends to get his panties in a bunch when people bring up religion here.

I think it has to do with a fear of having to compete with other evangelists for his illusionary pulpit where he preaches his “voice of reason”. LOL

I do?

Like I said, I hope he wandered over here to actually participate, not just spam. Probably, he just came by and made an account so he could draw some people over to help him with his cause.

If he actually is here to participate, God help him. People here aren't very tolerant of religious people unless they are Muslim.

Oh key dude. It's nice to know that you are so in tune with everyones mind on the matter. but I think you may have quite an argument with a lot of people on those statements.

Do you mean the half of people who post here that bash on Christians every chance they get, or the other half that bashes on Christians every chance they get?

For some reason, l never received any email notifications of the replies to this thread, so I'm just catching up. In general, it seems that some of you feel that I brought this on myself by my behavior...if that is what you wish to believe, then go ahead, because nothing that I could say would change that.

As far as one person's request for a link, it seems that I did not make myself clear. I was not banned because of any misbehavior of any kind, and the discussion that I had with the admin was via PM, so you would not be ale to view that anyway. I do have a copy of the PM thread. but since I tend to take the private portion of that nomenclature literally, I will not post it. I did send it to one Christian forum's admin, but that was an exception. This issue is not about me, and it really isn't about the people who made the complaint...it is about the fact that Newegg deemed the Bible to be offensive...just as simple as that.
