| http://europa.eu.int/comm/public_opi..._report_en.pdf -pg. 9 (PDF page 11) --- You know, after reading how they perform their surveys and the questions asked, survey size, etc., I'm actually quite satisfied with it (that rarely happens by the way) ![]() Anyway, it's a really interesting map. If you pretended that it was smooth (not broken down country by country), I'm sure there is some great history that can explain the breakdown. I haven't really looked into this area yet, so any hypotheses I could come up with would suffer from a lack of research, but does anyone have an idea why theism is declining in Europe/worldwide? it has been said, by whom i can't remember, that in europe faith is a candle in a church while in the states it's a light tower on a hill. due to historical reasons most people in europe see faith as something from the past , as the opposite of progress. while in the states faith and religions have kept developing together with new technologies. | Satisfied that it's reasonably accurate, conducted using fair questions, with a reasonable sample size of randomly chosen individuals. IOW, a fair survey, not like the 'make-believe' FOX NEWS, CNN, internet, opt-in, voluntary, etc. polls and surveys that plague the news media. |

| under construction | That is much lower then i thought. Mind though, looking at page 11(of qtwerp's pdf link), "I believe there is so me sort of spirit or life force" fills most of the rest. Making the non-god believers light and the god-believers dark is a nice touch . |

| It hit digg now too! Ick. I'm wondering if they read socialdiscussion since the PDF and the colors (dark v light) being a nice touch were mentioned there too. PS: There is more information about the survey on page 239 of the PDF. The unemployed and manual labourers have the highest "Do not believe" vote. Hmm... feeling let down/abandoned/depressed maybe? |
