Just learned that my ex-mother-in-law is in the hospital and not expected to survive the night.
She has been battling cancer for the past year, she was set to go home today, the hospital sent over to my ex's home everything she would need to make her as comfortable as possible.
The call came in at 4 this morning, all of her children are there by her side, and I find myself dreading the ring on my phone.
She is a woman who accepted me and my two young sons into her family. Despite the fact that her son and I did not survive, she told me about a month later that what happened between her son and I was just that, between us. She was so worried that I would include the boys in our divorce and not let them see the family.
About 2 years ago, she thanked me for allowing her to continue being a grandmother, regardless of who fathered my boys.
I don't know what to do. I am sitting here, in tears wanting so much to be there with her, but I can't, I am in my heart, but physically I can't.

Wow...I've been here as well recently. My mother-in-law was in the hospital in ICU in Las Vegas and we lived in LA at the time.

My gerkwater boss at the time wouldn't give me enough time to be by her side so I missed her passing, which bothered me very much. She was a descendant of Arron Burr and a very classy lady. From the moment I met her I felt very close to her and she liked me as well.

The best I could do was to keep in touch with everyone and let them know I was there...if only in spirit.

At 11:00pm, 8/14/08 my mother-in-law passed away. I spoke in a phone that was placed to her ear and said my goodbyes. She will always be in my heart and deeply missed.
