Default Barack Obama!

Heres something to nibble on I found in my e-mail...

If you don't read anything else, read the last statement Obama made.

Think you know who this man is?
This possible President of the United States !! Read Below and
ask yourselves, is this REALLY someone we can see as the
President of our great nation!!!!

Below are a few lines from Obama's books; In his words!

From Dreams of My Father: 'I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.'
From Dreams of My Father : 'I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race.'
From Dreams of My Father: 'There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white.'
From Dreams of My Father: 'It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names.'
From Dreams of My Father: 'I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn't speak to my own. It was into my father's image, the black man, son of Africa , that I'd packed all the attributes I sought in myself , the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, DuBois and Mandela.'

And FINALLY the Most Damming one of ALL of them!!!

From Audacity of Hope: 'I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.'

* If you have never forwarded an e-mail, now is the time to Do so!!!! We CANNOT have someone with this type of mentality running our GREAT nation!! I don't care whether you a Democrat or a Conservative. We CANNOT turn ourselves over to this type of character in a President. PLEASE help spread the word.

It really is very easy to quote out-of-context to make someone look bad.

Aside from sounding like yet another campaign-trail promise, what's so bad about this?

I think she interprets it as he would be a muslim, fighting alongside muslims to conquer the USA, whatever. something along those lines.

Why I would think that? Because the posted that crap of him being exposed to Islam and some blog entry of whackjob missionaries in Africa writing that he'd be a Muslim.

Where you would usually read it as something as "I won't turn into a copy of Hitler but hunting Muslims instead of Jews"

Has anyone run this past snopes? I don't believe even Obama said all those things.

What snopes has to say on this.

There's plenty of completely legitimate things horrifyingly wrong with Obama without haveing to forward rubbish like this. For example, I'm much more concerned over the implications of the connections he made in his Christian church than I am with any of his supposed connections to Islam.

I wouldn't be surprised to find that the content of the email you copied from originated with a supporter of Obama in an attempt to discredit Obama's critics by making them appear sloppy and dishonest.

/removes tinfoil hat

Whatever the case, when you veer off the path of sound logic and facts to discredit someone or some idea, all you do is bring discredit on yourself. You forfeit credibility.

Years of experience arguing with people on the internet has shown me it's typically the left who resort to sloppy and dishonest arguments - with those on the left, it's usually about whether the emotion is true to form, not whether the content is factual and the logic is sound.

If your problems with Obama are based on things like you read in that email, you have no real problems with Obama. The way to go about it, in my opinion, is look at what Obama is actually saying clearly and repeatedly, then see how that measures against your first principles. You know what your first principles are right?

One other general "thumb rule" I'd like to share with you: Anything that comes to you unsolicited, be it a salesman, news, opportunity, is likely problematic for you in some way. The most beneficial things are ones you have to do research to find, work to achieve, etc. The producers of the world's greatest widgets don't send salespersons working on commission knocking on doors, giving away a set of cheap steak knives in exchange for the opportunity to pitch their product. They don't send out bulk email spam either. They are just as likely to be behind on production, turning away customers or putting them on waiting list.

To find out what is wrong with Obama, visit his web site, and read his position on the issues. Listen to what he says in interviews and speeches. Look at the people he's associated with.

x2 really why all the hate for Muslims? You know, India has like the first or second largest population of Muslims on the planet. You rarely hear about India having problems; in fact it's a very progressive country nowadays. I think the US needs to stop putting its nose in places it doesn't belong. We're the reason everyone's all pissed off at us.

Hi Ras..
did I not say shame on me? if that makes me stand in a position of being discredited by people..well then they must deal with that dear.

Yes I know what my personal first principles are and remain my business thank you.

The person who sent me this always checks for the snopes..thats why I was put out a bit after reading the snopes. She was actually the one who introduced snopes to me a long time ago..goes to show you cant take everyone at their word and or via e-mail. Usually I do my homework with this sort of thing..you have to or step out to drown, its not like I havent swallowed gulps of salt water before..

Sorry, my little soapbox schpeel wasn't directed at you personally, when I said "you" I meant it in the general way.

Its the third largest, but only about 13% of the population. India is a Hindu country.

Pakistan has a larger population of Muslims. Look how progressive that country is these days.

Actually, I've spent some time in India and in the urban north terrorism isn't a trivial concern. Did you hear about those attacks that killed scores of people and injured hundreds in Jaipur?

We don't hear about India because India's in the "third world" and unless you have a crazy nutbag like Robert Mugabe terrorizing their citizens and rigging their elections people in developed countries generally don't hear about happenings in the third world.

I was a Childrens church director with a Nazarene church some years back and we often wrote to the missionary's in Zimbabwe, they were very needy and yet so very dear and appreciative of any gifts sent..

My awareness of the treacherous conditions in which many sadly reside come only through missionaries and or televised programing. I know its a reality but my feet have been rooted and planted here in the USA. So knowing and seeing it to me are completely two different things.

When the missionary's come to church they have a flood of stories, both good and bad, yet they are survivors..its commendable what they accomplish in these 3rd world countries..

You are right about this Iandefor.

I don't disagree with your point, except perhaps so far as to comment that calling them a third world country may be pushing it a bit now. The population there has tripled in 50 years, while also (in the last 30 years) the percentage of people below the poverty line has dropped from well over 50% to around 25% (comparable with may European nations, much less than some African nations).

It depends on what part of India. There are still remote locations that have limited availability to electricity but most of the county is fairly industrialized and their economy has been going nowhere but up. India has changed very rapidly in the last 10 or 15 years, a fact that not a lot of people outside the region are aware of.

That the country has grown and is growing is undeniable. But it's still poor and whoever came up with 25% as under the "poverty line" has some very strange ideas about what poverty is.

I understand that poverty definitions are a very complex matter indeed. Ask a sociologist would be my suggestion to get an educated take on this. Or do some (a lot of) reading. There is certainly a lot of it available.

Essentially it seems to be a comparison of income and cost of living. For example, you can't judge poverty in India based on how many $US a household has. Personally I find 25% of Indians living in Poverty quite believable, compared to a figure in the US of around 12% I think it was. I think the details in the site I cited were drawn from CIA World Factbook data.
