Default Lesbians demand right to divorce

First they demanded the right to be married, now they're demanding the right to be unmarried. Two lesbians high-tailed it over to Massachessetts to tie the knot as soon as gay marriage was recognized there a few years ago. They want a divorce already. Problem is, they live in Rhode Island which doesn't recognize marriages between same sex couples.

In order to get the divorce, at least one of them would have to move to Massachussetts long enough to establish residency. (Maybe Mass. should make getting a divorce as open and easy as getting married?) Of course, this is an issue where the only winners will be the lawyers.

My solution: Government needs to get out of the marriage business altogether. Marriage is between a couple, and the people they respect to recognize it. Government has no place recognizing any marriage.

I'm in agreement. It doesn't particularly make sense to have government meddling in marriage.

If you're married in one state then you're married in all states. A homosexual couple can't get married in RI, but if they get married elsewhere then RI is required to recognize that by federal law. I guess the point is to keep consistency across state borders. It makes sense. Otherwise you would have to get married again every time you go to another state. This was never an issue until the last few years when homosexual marriage became an issue. That's why so many people have tried to get a clear federal statement about homosexual marriage.
