What is the current minimum wage in Canada right now? I know in the U.S. some states raised the minimum wage from $5.15 and hour to $7.00 just this year.

$8 in Ontario right now.

I'm of mixed opinions about this. While you can't live in most places on $8 an hour, most of (and this is a big generalization) the minimum-wage workers are high school students who don't really have expenses. A few provinces have tried instigating a two-tiered minimum wage (such as BC's training wage - first 500 hours at $6, and then $8 thereafter), but those plans seemed to backfire as well, because businesses could simply hire kids for 500 hours and then find some excuse to fire them.

All in all, I'm still not sure whether it's a good idea or not to raise it up to $10.

Sounds like the United States where you can't live on minimum wage at all.

i dont know if employers could afford it though...they would just not hire anyone and employment would go down. tough issue
