| Interested participant | Maybe this was posted elsewhere, if so, terribly sorry. Tomorrow there is supposed to be a big "gas out" meaning no one will go the the gas station, in attempts to show the big oil companies we mean business. personally i feel this is ineffective, as everyone will either fill up on the 14th, or the 16th, but its too late to change. so please, do not buy gas on the 15th of May, maybe it will work. also another good idea I've heard is this: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. TEXACO, too. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. cheers, Trab |

| Discussion starter | LOL..... My inbox has been filled with this junk for the past month. STOP! Even if it were possible to get EVERY SINGLE PERSON to not buy gas, it wouldn't do any good. The problem is we are too dependent on oil. Car pooling is not as common as it once was. The problem is that in the past couple of decades things have changed, as well as driving habits. People no longer "rest" on weekends. Sunday is no longer reserved as a religious holiday in much of the US. Businesses run 24x7 now. All of this addds up to more gas usage. This is why Daylight Savings Time is moot now too. Maybe a few decades ago it still helped, but not anymore. Like I said, many businesses are open 24x7. The real solution to this is to devise ways that we can change fuel that works with existing systems that lessens our dependence on oil. It's possible, we just need to get politicians and manufacturers to wear clothing without pockets. Plain and simple. |

| I've got 8mi worth of gas in my car. How do you expect me to get to work? How about everyone get a tuneup and inflate their tires to the right air pressure and simply drive smarter? The heavy footers, the have-to-run-out-to-the-store-several-times-every-day'ers, and the people who don't take care of their vehicles are the ones eating up all the gas... |

| Level 37 Bureaucrat | Is this just an American thing or worldwide? Just for the record Greenpeace have had a long-running campaign against ExxonMobil, they're the worst when it comes to environment. And was it Shell that completely raped Nigeria a few years back? None of them are particularly good but at least pick the slightly-less-criminal ones... |

| Interested participant | see, this is why I felt this wouldn't work in the first place (people filling up the day before, people not caring enough to make other arrangements, etc). Personally I think people should just stop using there car for one day, but the organization of that would be insane, and so many people just wouldn't care... however, I will cotinue to not buy gas from ExonnMobil, Texaco, and a few other companies. I agree that people should also keep there cars in good shape, and not make so many short trips, but the problem is the lack of support/knowledge of such. cheers, hope you don't fill up if you can help it. Trab ps. as far as I know it is world-wide, there was really no specification. | |

| Interested participant | after doing a little bit of research (yes I probably should have done that first) I found that this "gas out" is one of those annoying chain e-mails, and is not likely to have any effect on the gas company. However, since I do not need to buy gas right now, I choose to NOT do so on this day, out of respect for the idea that was trying to succeed. cheers, Trab | |

| Interested participant | exactly. Personally I fill up once a week/2 weeks depending, so this was just convient for me. Hopefully there wont be any major lashback, and if so, it will have subsided by the upcomming weekend. | |

| Out of interest, who are the companies which are overpricing the the gas in the US? Mobil? Shell? Most of these are available here, so if it's gonna be worldwide, then I might aswell follow suit here. Extreme Coder |
