I've never had a problem with the French. Most Americans will say they are rude but European culture is a vastly different than American culture.

allforcarrie, no offense but i don't think anyone was implying the French as a whole country were at fault
In every country in the world the right-wing parties are winning, why is that?

maybe because of fear, insecurity, (bad) economical reasons.
Here in france people were convinced by these (bad IMO) reasons i think.

No chance of that happening in the UK or USA, it's all old white guys

Hopefully Jean-Marie Le Pen and his Merry Band of Racists didn't get too much support this time around?

I voted wft.

I'm not french, although I was born in France and lived there until I was nine. I think french people voted this new president because of the fear of insecurity because this new president has been the Minister of the Interior, responsable for the security forces in France in a previous goverment.

When he was minister of the Interior, he was very authoritative and the police/gendarmerie became very authorathive too, leading to the Paris riots in 2006, when the community of magreb countries living in Paris rebelled against the police.

IMHO it's too bad that Ségolène lost the elections, but there is a possibility that she might become the future prime-minister in the next government elections in a few weeks from now. I think she already sasid she's a candidate.

So wtf, they fought for the presidency and maybe they will have to work together for the next years.

Maybe it's better this way. If Sarkozy became prime-minister and Ségolène President, maybe things could get worst in France.
Anything that can happen, will happen if...

well its far from every country in the world, if you look at oceana and south america (- brazil) lefties are the majority
well maybe just that their policys on welfare, the economy, education and public spending are fairer, make more financial sense, and dont drown cause the legal system to become more of a mess than it is now, at least thats why i voted Tory in the last two elections.
Oh, but i do disagree with sarkozys views on open source software

But if such a candidate did appear in the US, I'd bet she'd get all the votes

I voted I don't care, cos I don't know much about the french politics(well, nothing), but there's is something... His father was hungarian, so the hungarian news dealt with him very much.

One ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them.
