I figure if anyone's going to start a debate, it's going to be me. After all, I tend to either shut down threads with my replies, or spark some kind of outcry. Personally I think the reactions I get are intersting, but let's get down to business:

Israel and Lebanon are waging war in the Middle East, as I hope you all know. According Associated Press, the Israeli ambassador to the United Nations, stressed that their latest operation was "in no way an invasion of Lebanon," while Israel bombs from the sky (bombing civilians and populated cities, not just military bases), fires ground rockets, and is massing troops.

My question to you: What constitutes an invasion?

Lets see. Dictionary.com says


1. The act of invading, especially the entrance of an armed force into a territory to conquer.
2. A large-scale onset of something injurious or harmful, such as a disease.
3. An intrusion or encroachment.

It looks an awful lot like Israel is doing number 1, and 3 at this point. Since I'm tired, I will just say that the Israelian prime minister is full of shit, and what he is doing is a total invasion. Maybe not with land troops, but those rockets and bombs certainly don't amount to a friendly argument.

I'm really sad that only one person responded here. I waited and waited in the hopes that someone else would reply, and it just didn't happen. I think current events are just not the kind of thing that people here want to discuss. There's rampant posting in the Bush v. Kerry debate, which has been OVER politically for two years now. It's like you all can't let go of the past and look to the future. There's a war going on. Right now. A war that is killing innocent people and quite possibly shaping the global-political sphere of the future, and no one really cares.

What Israel is doing to Lebanon is classified as invasion because it is interrupting the lives of innocent humans, doesn’t an invasion just do that? It may not be an invasion with soldiers and tanks taking over the city/country but its invasion into people’s right to live without fear.
