I'm not really scared, but North Korea needs to watch out. If one of their 'test' missles strike any US or UK terroritory, they can expect another war.

The media overblows the situation. Remember, Bush once said North Korea and Iran were next for invasion, and it didn't happen. That's because they are countries who can actually deal damage. Nothing's going to come of this. As soon as there's a real threat, the US backs down and a relative peace is restored.

Forget the US The biggest problem is the suffering of the North Korean people, I live in China and there are many refugees trying to escape from North Korea, they risk death to go and live in China (mostly as a cheap labour or prostitution) . China's position of ecnomically openning North Korea is probably our best bet (the Chinese should know how to deal with the insanely Communists).

This really depends on your view. Firstly I think we all agree that the situation in North Korea is terrible. We are talking about a highly incompetent government that spends all its budget on military and does not feed its citizens (this is Korea , not the Sahara, they can easily feed everyone if it was their priority – they get rice from their enemies – the US and Japan!). We are talking about a nation that is experiencing the cultural revolution constantly , this is no joke. If anyone doesn't believe that , they should go to the Dongbei provinces in China and talk to some of the refugees. Those who made it alive.... Now the question is what can we do about it? I can see several options : 1. The American option :an aggressive anti North Korean policy , hoping to economically and diplomatically isolate North Korea and make the situation so bad that hopefully some anti-Communists rebellion will break. 2. The Chinese option : develop North Korea economically through trade with the understanding that economically developed people are less inclined to go to war over ideological differences. 3. Everybody else's option – do nothing I'm sure there are other options ( I should research South Korea's position more thoroughly). I guess that you go for the 3rd option. I personally feel that the Chinese option is the best.

4th option - dismantle the North Korean government, grant asylum to its leader, and put the people and land under South Korean flag. It will be problematic, as the reunification of Germany was, but in the long term (20-30 years) it will probably be the best for both Koreas. (Unless it will cause the economic collapse of both)

not to point out the obvious. But WHO would not be concerned about a country with a less than reputable past testing ICBMs with nuclear capabilities?

From what i heard, the country is seriously indoctrinated, i doubt it will go down without a fight. Maybe Chinas way of trying to improve things might work, i do not really know how. Is that really Chinas rationale for dealing with North Korea? Option (1) is definitely not going to work when China is still doing (2), and is option (3) really bad? Surrounding countries have their own difficulties, and simply do not know what to do. I think option (2) is probably best. Just trade with the country, not considering it a sovereign government. In trade agreements, have demands that meddle with the internal affairs. | |

I find it bizarre that the more authoritarian China is promoting the most liberal policy, whereas the supposedly 'liberal' democracies generally want to cut North Korea's economic lifelines.
