| I really hope it's less of a physical "drop box" than a metaphorical one. It's hard to tell from the picture. Regardless, I'm fully in favor of making it easier to give up kids for adoptions and adopt kids. |

| I personally think it's a great idea. I'm not promoting dumping babies in drop boxes, but it's good to see they care about the future of Japan. I believe no kid should suffer by being dumped into the street like in L.A. or other big cities mothers drop their babies in dumpsters. Dropbox > Dumpster... your choice |

| Commentator | I agree that this is the way ahead. There are too many young ladies in the world who are afraid of what their parents might think and they hide their pregnancy, giving birth in bathrooms and dumping the child. Just an example, but it happens. I know that when my youngest was born in California 5 years ago, they were starting something similar. Same goes nowadays here in North Carolina. Thank God for progress. |

| i believe something similar has been tested in some belgian city ... it could be that it's still going on ... i should check. if i remember correctly it's an unattended room in a hospital where you can leave the baby safely and anonymously. i really don't think those 'drop boxes' will encourage more people to abandon their babies; just that those who were planning it will have a safer way to do so. so i don't have anything against it so far. |

I can't help but think that this might encourage irresponsible behavior. Just a thought.

| the wicked one | These boxes also exist in Germany. It's "illegal" to give away your child by using one of these boxes but there is neither investigation by the police nor a penality for the parents. I like it better than abortion which is "illegal" in the same way as these boxes here. Yes, I'm against abortion. |

| As I understand it, japan has an aging population, meaning there are fewer kids to provide for the future then there should be... So by all means, put the kid in a box (preferably a metaphorical one) if the parents cant take care of it. Just make DAMN sure there is plenty of opportunity to adopt the kids, and also make DAMN sure the orphanages are getting enough resources to care for these children until adoption. |

| under construction | I'd rather have people having abortions, drop-boxes seem like a bad idea to me. They should at least deliver them face to face. (but no questions asked) Quote:
Yeah, like i hid a large pillow under my sweater at the university one entire day. There is no hiding that.. those parents are either deluding themselves, idiots, or simply not there. Quote:
Meh, i'd rather have sex, why not? Contraceptives work, so seems crazy not to, if you have the chance.

Next topic, skinny chicks: there have been incidents where they themselves remain undernourished and, consequently, the child doesn't grow as large as it should and the mother doesn't show. Then there's every possible combination in between what with wearing baggier clothes, tighter clothes (think corset), and running away. I'm kinda curious what makes the option of murdering an unborn child better than the option of giving it a chance at life. Quote:

| Granted, but it is a 'personal affair', a fundamental right of the women to make a decision with her body, or it should be. I don't consider a wise idea for governments to penalize it because it is not of their business. If we were talking of killing citizens I would agree but...we are not. What is the case for the illegal ones who are killed in the US borders? As long as they are not American citizens there is no much fuss, but what if they were American citizens? A war? |

| Level 37 Bureaucrat | I don't see how an anonymous box has any advantage over just handing it to someone in person without having any questions asked. It just de-personalises the whole thing and could make people more likely to make the decision without thinking about it. |
