| Yay! Who can't wait to pay 3 dollars a gallon again? http://money.cnn.com/2006/04/21/news...ex.htm?cnn=yes This is short term, but analysts have said that we can expect 3 dollars at least, and go up to possibly 5 dollars a gallon. A report on CNN last night said what to do if it goes up to 7 dollars a gallon. This still pales in comparison to other countries, like Amsterdam, which can pay up to 3 times more a gallon (although they use litres), but the smarter Europeans don't think SUVs and such are really viable solutions and go for smaller, more economical cars. Getting 15 mpg for them would probably hurt the pockets of the commoner even more. So anyway, hooray for our dependence on foreign oil! |

| I can't wait to see BMW's steam-hybrid, THAT should be a trip. Hybrid is the way to go. Regular gas engines only use about 20% of the energy they harness. The rest goes to waste as excess heat. Not very efficient if you ask me. The only reason they have so much horsepower is for accelleration. |

Forgive me for sounding like some car dealer, but you asked, so you're getting a lot of information about current hybrid cars: The Prius is pretty fantastic. If you keep a watch on your fuel consumption/ efficiency screen, and alter your driving a little, you can average close to 80mpg. The next models will average even better. Currently, the world record in a Prius is 1,397 miles on a single 12.78 gallon tank. I believe most cars (not SUVs, trucks, or vans, which average much less) will get about 280-350 miles on the same tank of gas. They cost about $20,000. Honda Insights only have a 10 gallon tank, and average about 600-700 miles on it. It's a good car, but the Prius is more stylish and has better milage. The downside to both the Prius and the Insight is that they seat two people, so they're not very good for families, or people who want to go out with multiple friends. They cost about $20,000. The Honda Civic Hybrid is not as environmental, and has a 12.3 gallon tank averaging about 500 miles on it. It's four-door, seats four (they can seat five, though without a lot of room), and is a great buy for families or people who travel in groups, pricing around $20,000. Camry Hybrids are as large and roomy as the Accord Hybrid, but are not very stylish inside - they're a little klunky. They price around $25,000 and average 600 miles on a 17 gallon tank, and seat five comfortably. They're also great for families and are good people-haulers. The Honda Accord Hybrid isn't as good for the environment, but is both a luxury car AND seats five people comfortably. They price around $30,000 and average 580 miles on a 17 gallon tank. Accords could potentially find it's niche with businessmen and women, young consumers wanting luxury style, and families. It can also open doors (so to speak), showing people that "Hybrid" doesn't mean you have to give up style or room. Also, the Accord Hybrid prices less than other luxury cars. My brother has an Accord and my father has a Lexus, both are 2005 models. The whole family agrees the Accord if better, roomier, and more stylish.

It's entirely sad that the first time I checked this thread again to see if you had replied I didn't even see this post. ^.^' Thanks for the informative post btw. Out of these, which would you pick considering the gas prices?

If I coulld easily overlook the outside, I'd go with the Accord, hands down. The inside is fantastic and spacious, but the outside is ugly. The Camry is opposite the Accord. Outside looks okay, inside is ugly. Prius and Insight just don't fit the people I need to haul. And the Civic? Well, I hate Civics. All Civics. But it may just be the best compromise... except for the environmental issues. For me? What would I end up choosing? I'm waiting =P I'll get a car in a year or more, when there are more options. Frankly, I think the steam-hybrid by BMW will be amazing, but since I can't just go buy a BMW and it won't be out for a long time, I think waiting a year is my way to go. My current car runs fine, and hybrids are such a big thing these days there will be a lot more coming out. By next year hybrid cars will introduce: Chevy Malibu Hybrid Hyundai Accent Hybrid Nissan Altima Hybrid Lexus GS Hybrid Honda Fit And for people who like SUVs/ Trucks (bleh) Chevy Tahoe Hybrid Dodge Durango Hybrid GMC Yukon Hybrid Porsche Cayenne Hybrid Saturn VUE Hybrid Dodge Ram Hybrid

| Well I live in Curacao and I drive a Mitsubischi Outlander and every week ( a week & a half or so) i have to put 70 guilders (which is about $35 USd dollars) in my car; that is a Quarter at a tank. I can not let it get below a quarter, so for a full tank I have to pay around $50 (100 guidlders a week). IN the caribbean is most of the times hot so most people have cars (especially suv' ) even with the increase of gas prices people are still buying SUv here. IN holland it is diffrent people use most of the times bikes and public transportation (like buses and trains). I know that some countries already have hybride and electric cars... but it will take a while to get to the caribbean |
