Default The Question of Illegal Immigration

Illegal immigration is quite the hot topic in national politics at the moment.

From amnesty, to "guest worker programs", to outright deportation, there are lots of positions on the issue.

Where do you stand?

If those are my only three choices, I guess somewhere between amnesty and guest worker program...? I just think that it should be easy to become an immigrant.

I simply asked for your stance - it doesn't have to fit any of the examples listed.

I am completely against the concept of immigration. Because I'm against the concept of the state.

Becoming a citizen should be as easy as getting a driver's license. Go to a government building, sign some paperwork, get a nifty card with your name and picture on it-
Welcome to America.

After a brief adjustment period (6 months to a year) any business that is caught hiring people who are in the country illegally so they don't have to pay the minimum wage should be closed down.

I'm all for anyone coming to America as long as they do it legally. I also think the process could be made easier for people to get here as well.

What he said.

This country was made great via immigration. It can stay great as long as we stay true to the inscription on the Statue of Liberty.

I have no problem with legal immigrants and it should be hard to prove that you are worthy of this great nation.
My problem is with the illegals it that here they think they run the state. As the saying goes" Raza, the klan with a tan". And that is how they act. The border patrol can not even check on reports of them standing around the Home Depot, because they are more than 5 miles from the border. What kind of BS is that?

I personally think that the "guest worker programs" are designed to exploit current illegal immigrants for cheap labor. I think that is wrong.

I have no problem with illegal immigrants (I refuse to use the term "illegal alien"). What I do have a problem with is people exploiting these individuals for cheap labor. I also have a problem with exploiting our poor citizens for cheap labor.

let the people immigrate, its not like we don't have enough room, food, or wealth. We have enough wealth for our poor citizens too.... the capitalist society just wont let them have any.

We obviously need to reform the current immigration system, but I'm still against amnesty. Why give special considerations to people who clearly don't respect our laws?

Did you know that Mexico lost more people from them moving to the U.S. then died in all of Mexico last year? There's a scary fact.

As long as we have an internationalist president, which we will as long as we elect canidates from the two major parties, we will continue to have an open border policy.

Why have dumb laws that make it take YEARS for someone to become a citizen? Disobeying a dumb law like that one is perfectly acceptable.

Most of them probably died on the way in too.

So long as the USA continues to harm other nations such as Mexico their peoples will seek a better life. sort out Mexico and some mexicans would go back, and a whole heap of them would try and cross the border each year. You sick views of 'just shoot the bleeters' doesn't quite work when your imposing trade sanctions with the same government.

JoshJ, yeah, I can agree with that argument to a degree, but many of the illegal immigrants are illegal because they wouldn't be allowed to enter the U.S. for a wide variety of valid reasons (criminal history, disease, etc.).

We have immigration laws to protect U.S. citizens. Some are probably misguided or impractical, and I agree that they should be changed.

I'm just against blanket amnesty. On a case-by-case basis, amnesty might be a reasonable choice.

DoctorMO, Mexico does a fine job of harming itself. What have we done? I'm not aware of any trade sanctions against Mexico. When did I say to shoot anyone??? WTF?

Inside the base of the Statue of Liberty is inscribed a poem by Emma Lazarus.

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

This is what has made America what it is.

I'm in favor of relatively easy, free immigration to America and against illegal immigration, the hiring of illegals, etc.

I just love the general tone of hatred for the US. It confirms that we are doing well, and are envied.
