| Well, maybe. However, I think they just know we are all just stuck with them.........They are as arrogant about the fact that they openly lie (or mislead) as they are about their corporate obligations. |

And even now with all these statements regarding how Bush was told that the British intelligence report stating that the WMDs were there was faulty and not to be trusted... It's all slimy. ![]()

That way they still maintain the presidency. Also, because having one party have a majority or hold all 3 areas of the federal government is bad stuff.

| The GOP is in a no-win situation right now. The religious right has successfully hijacked the party and the war on Iraq has screwed them over with the voting base in general. If it wasn't for all the money tied to the party I'd fully expect the party to collapse. As it is, the next few years will be interesting from a political standpoint. The party can't reinvent itself while under the control of the Religious Right, and it's only going to swing more to their side of thigs. |

| Other way around. It's 5 liberals or liberal-leaning judges and 4 conservatives or conservative-leaning judges. Otherwise we'd have been a lot worse off in the 6 years 2001-2006 under full Republican control. |

| I think panickedthumb has it right really, who would want Cheney as president, and also, it is so close to the end that by the time anything got rolling in terms of impeachment they'd already be going out the door. Keep in mind though, impeachment doesn't usually mean that a President is removed from office. Nixon resigned, he didn't have to, although it was the right thing to do considering his actions. Also, I don't think what Bush has done falls under the articles of impeachment, I haven't read it for quite some time though and could be wrong there. The second we all found out that Bush was wrong about the WMD's (lying or just believed and was wrong) that's when he should have been held accountable. Had Congress, the press, and the American people gone after him then, when he was vulnerable, we could have really stripped him of the power high he was/is on. Problem is, the whole country seemed to be on a post 9/11 patriotism high at the time, and everyone in D.C. was afraid of not supporting the war time President for how it would reflect upon their careers. Also, all of the new laws and constitution tweaks Bush made in order to do his job (as he claims) should have been eradicated the second we realized what was really going on. I find it sickening in this country that all a President has to do to get out of something is just keep spinning the truth to the press and let their analysts (glorified talk radio jocks) continue to spin it in their own ways until everyone is so burnt out on the topic they don't even want to hear about it anymore, let alone act on the topic. Media fatigue is dangerous to our system and way of life. As someone else said in this thread, it seems like the moment Bush got busted on not finding any WMD's, he within minutes seems to have come up with a whole new reason for fighting the war and acted dismissive when anyone asked him about the WMD's. Denial of incompetence should not be a presidents political stance. Our two party system is ridiculous, but as long as the Republicans and the Democrats have a stranglehold on power, they aren't about to give up a slice to some other party and let them get their foot in the door. Plus they seem to enjoy locking other parties out of the debates, and the press actually helps them do it. On the other hand, too many parties in a system can also be a bad thing, as it has been in many countries. If you want Bush to be held accountable, or to see other party be allowed to compete in the political process, or the war to end, basically all Americans are going to have to make a big noise about it. But sadly, as is the case with most issues in this country, American Apathy is destroying us. Everyone will complain, few will stand up and be counted. Should Bush be removed? Yes. Will he be? No. Even if Cheney got the boot too, the Speaker of the House is not qualified (imo) to be President, neither are any of Bush's Cabinet members. |

| [quote=panickedthumb;294]When you get right down to it, you can't PROVE that they lied about the war. They could have genuinely believed that there were WMD's... /QUOTE] They could have genuinely believed in unicorns as well. That doesn't make them exist, nor is it justification for invading a sovereign nation to prove to the rest of the world that they exist. |

It sure makes me sick sometimes. I can see him lying to people during his speeches and for only his benefit. I am primarily Republican in many views, however, Democratic in many others. As you can see, I get confused easily! Not about this though. He has no place being where he is. SirShaggy PS - This is my first post here, nice to see all of you here! Good Fortune to ALL.
