One of Hollywood's most memorable stars is being mourned today. Actor Roy Schieder who starred as a police chief in the box office mega-hit film Jaws has died yesterday. he was 75. Cause of death was not given at first, but I thought I might have heard on the news that it was cancer. Sheider had starred in two box office films. The other one was The French Connection where he starred alongside Gene Hackman. He also starred in the musical movie All That Jazz. His most memorable part in Jaws was when he was scooping up some of the fish bait and blood from a bucket and pouring it into the water to attract the killer shark, and when the shark broke the surface of the water, he jumps back immediately and says to Robert Shaw & Richard Dryfus in a very low scared voice while smoking a cigarette; "You're gonna need a bigger boat." The line was only recently reccognized in '05 as a national catch phrase. Schieder went on to star in the sequel Jaws 2 in the same role as Police Chief Brody. In Jaws 4, his character was killed off, as the film had him as already having died of a heart attack sometime after Jaws 2. Richard Dryfus and Robert Shaw did not star in any of the film's sequels. Shaw himself died in the late '70s sometime after he starred in The Deep, also produced by Jaws author Peter Benchley. But his two most memorable films of all time thus far, will always be his role as the police chief in Jaws 1 & 2! Last edited by Daquan13 : 03-16-2008 at 08:45 AM.

He was in all kinds of other notable movies too, including The French Connection, Blue Thunder, Naked Lunch to name a few. And had the lead role in Seaquest DSV on TV too.

He was also in a movie called The Seven Ups, where he played a cop going after a bad guy in a hair-raising car chase that was somewhat similar to the edge-of-your-seat car chase in Bullitt which starred the late great Steve McQueen. Last edited by Daquan13 : 03-16-2008 at 08:47 AM.
