Default Movie Recommendations

I always find myself looking for a suggestion to a good movie to watch. Let's try not to get technical with "What Genre?" maybe list your favorite movie and what genre it is (whether it be action, drama, comedy, etc.), or your favorite in multiple genres. Your choice =].

I'd like to give a shout to Smokin' Aces myself, which I thought was a GREAT film.

I have a mix of movies past and present, but a few that have been watched repeatedly are:-

The Big Kahuna, Kevin Spacey is amazing in this, and so were the scriptwriters.
"The Big Kahuna" IMDB

Snatch, The characters in this film are great, the director Guy Ritchie got everything right, the soundtrack rocks, it's got a mix of everything you could put into a film.
"Snatch" IMDB

I could go on, I have over a thousand movies, and I will probably find another one that should be listed here, but those were the first two the came to mind.

+1 On Snatch. Can't say much more than what RichBarna said.

The Dirty Dozen -WWII movie

Mad Max-The first two, third one kinda slipped IMHO (cept for Tinu Turner in chainmail hehe)

Pulse- Horror/Scifi I just thought the idea was cool.

Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, and Land of the Dead- Zombies nuff said.

Shaun of the Dead- Funny zombies!

Hellraiser movies- Again, only the first few. They started milking it after that.
(As a side note, it would be cool to have a beryl desktop cube that looked like the puzzle box from those movies)
Cthulhu for president. Why choose the lesser evil?

I'd start with the Top 7 on IMDB's Top 250 list:
  1. The Godfather (1972)
  2. The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
  3. The Godfather: Part II (1974)
  4. Il Buono, il brutto, il cattivo (1966) -> better known as The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
  5. Pulp Fiction (1994)
  6. Casablanca (1942)
  7. Schindler's List (1993)

I'm going to have to go with The Big Lewbowski.

I watched The Worlds Fastest Indian the other day, that's definitely worth a watch too.

Wow, it looks like you guys have already covered the basics. But I don't think I seen "Fight club" anywhere (I probably overlooked it).

Anyway... Great movie.

Big Lebowski and Snatch are also great movies. In fact, most of the movies you guys have listed are all pretty good (most of them).

Little Miss Sunshine -- It's a comedy, but it pokes and prods your mind in areas that you didn't want to go, but in a funny way! There were times when I almost turned it off when I first saw it because my brain wanted to just explode, but I kept watching. "I laughed! I cried!" fits this movie perfectly. Ties for second best movie for me....

The Crow -- THE BEST movie of all time for me. (Action/Gothic)

Underworld -- Something about female vampires just makes me....errr...yeah.... Second best movie of all time for me. (Action/Gothic)

Terminator 2 -- The best of the series (Action/Thriller)

Pulp Fiction -- A tad bit gory for me, but funny (Comedy?/Horror?)

The Big Lebowski -- brilliant! (Comedy)

Monty Python's Holy Grail -- just see it...you've probably already seen thousands of references to it in tv shows and other stuff you've seen already anyways. (Comedy)

Fight Club -- good movie (Action/Thriller)

Tommy Boy -- Chris Farley was a mad comedy genius....(Comedy for nights you don't want to think)

Happy Gilmore -- Bob Barker pwnz! (Comedy for nights you don't want to think)

Dude Where's My Car -- "What does my tattoo say?" "Dude...." "What does mine say?" "Sweet..." ...... "And theeeeennnnnn......" (Comedy for nights when you're brain dead)

yeah.....but to think that I actually HATE movies.......

Saw Hot Fuzz when it was released over here, great movie, incredibly funny, it had me in tears at times so it's highly recommended.

Worlds Fastest Indian was good, and a true story, and originally from New Zealand I've seen the original bike in RL too, and Burt Munro must of had balls of steel to ride that thing at the speeds he did, there's nothing to the bike.

Saving Private Ryan and Enemy At The Gates were good too, and there's probably more, but that's all I can think of right now
