| Be gentle, newcomer | As an amateur writer, I was thrilled to see this forum. I thought I might start with a lighthearted offering. Inspired by the Fufumal, and goaded by a coworker, I have committed an unpardonable act of "epic" poetry. Read on, if you dare. The Saga of the Waterspout Diminutive spider, eight legged, hairy Burns with lust for bugs of high places Mounts him, cling-footed, the water's great egress Dreams of a web in the glinting spring sun. Zeus the thunderer, offended by hubris Sends against the eight-eyed a torrent of violence Aquarius' gift cascades down in a curtain From web-spinner's clutches dashes his dream. Apollo, light bringer, looks down in compassion Alights in his chariot to clear the morass. Warms arachne's grandchild with beams of gold sunlight Allows him to begin his dream-quest anew. |
