Days of Doom

She stared blankly at the plastered walls. It wasn't long ago she felt stripped away from her body. Now she felt happy- genuinely happy. He was more than she had ever hoped for. He never let her down. All the fights had been worth it, all the days she spent with him, all the 'i love you's' were just part of the whole plan. She fingered the beautiful gem placed delicately on her finger. What could go wrong? She loved him with all of her heart, she remained his forever.

Tomorrow fell into a deep black sorrowful hole of darkness. A call, police, tears thrown upon her. Dead. He couldn't be. What happened? Black mascara left traces on her cheeks. She didn't bother to wipe it away. Hours ago he had been with her. She never should have left. He told her she'd be happy. Why'd he have to die? She couldn't live life alone. Not without him by her side.

'Promise me you'll be here with me for eternity' she had asked him.
'Baby, of course! As I breathe life's breath, you'll never be away from me again'
"What if you have to leave me?'
'I'll send my ghost for you. I promise, wherever you go, I'll bring you along. I love you, and nothing can keep me from being there right next to you enjoying our years to follow'
She smiled up at him, he smiled back.
Fingers molded together tightly, the walked along the sand, the sunset above them, ocean water lapping at their ankles.

It didn't have to end this way. She felt him calling her. She needed to be with him. She grabbed the gun from his top shelf. A look, one bullet loaded in. Muzzle in place, trigger waiting to be pulled. Eyes shut tight. Finger down on trigger. Boom! Her body crashed to the floor. Blood on the tan carpet. She drew her last breath, said her last word. 'Drew...''

She woke up, a bright light fastened before her eyes. His face, clear as day, was smiling back at her. 'I thought I'd lost you forever, Natalie' he said to her. The glint in his eyes told her this wasn't a dream. It was reality. She gingerly took his hand in hers, and together they walked off into the sunset, just like old times, and remained for eternity as one.
