Hi everybody.

My real name is Gaute, I'm a 30 years old, married guy, from Norway.

I work for an american software company as a presales within IT Service Management, and when not at work I like to play around with GNU/Linux and my beloved Mac's.

I was pointed to this forum from the Ubuntu forum, and I'm looking forward to getting to know this forum. Right now I'm not sure what it's all about...

Welcome! Just about any topic is fair game here.

I have a question: What makes Norway different from other western countries? I don't think I've ever spoken with anyone from Norway, so I'd love to hear about it.

A very good question!

Norway was a poor country untill late seventies when we discovered oil.

As neighbours of Russia, we were much influenced by communism and socialism. And when Norway became one of the richest nations in the world due to the oil in the North Sea, socialism still stuck. So now we are a rich country where we have a strange combination of socialism, capitalism and a strong belief in individual right.

We believe in religious freedom, but norwegians in general is not very religious. We have a stronger belief in freedom of speech than religion.

...and we have some amazing women...
