Default Are any of you on disabilty like me?

Are any of you presently receiving disabiliaty payments like me?

In November '06, I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure.
I ended up being hospitalized twice in 3 weeks!

Had too much fluid in lungs and was suffering from extreme shortness of breath!

After having no luck trying to find employment and constantly being turned down and ignored by co's. supposedly looking for help, I came to the realization that I've had enough of putting up with their ridiculous games and decided to file for disability from Social Security.

I was approved earlier this month and got the first check last week! What a relief it is now not to have to work any more!! And also, not to have to struggle financially any more!!!

Hey Daquan..
How in the world did you get this check so quickly? most people have to wait even under a doctors care and being diagnosed with diabetes for two years to get anything..well I was just wondering..

Hi!

This isn't from a result of having diabetes. Diabetics can work and live normal lives.

It's because of a heart condition which forces me to have to take things easy from now on. I can no longer do any more hard labor work like I used to years back. Nor can I jog or run fast any more.

My heart was damaged as a result of having CHF, which I didn't know that I had until I was hospitalized the first time.

And the wait time was 5 - 6 months at most.

And to make matters even more worst or a bit more worst, I now have to use a breathing machine when I sleep at night because of being diagnosed with a mild form of sleep apnea!

I was talking about the wait time it takes to find out if you've been accepted for monthly disability payments from Social Security.

it normally is between 5 to 6 months from the time that you sign up.

And whoever goes to sign up, during the processing of the paperwork, whatever they send you in the mail that needs info for your case, then JUST DO IT. And get it back to them asap.

The least little thing that doesn't look right, it msy give them the excuse to deny you!! Follow everything to the letter and don't hesitate!

Luckily, I was not denied at all. I was accepted the first time around. And you will get a retro check based on the time that you applied. The best way to sign up IS to go directly to your nearest office to have a representative do it for you.

You just need to bring valuable info of your income status, rent and utiliy bills, if any, and you SS card. Remember, do all that they ask you to, or they'll surley deny you, and the wait time will be even longer - possibly another 6 months or more!!

Good luck to you all! I hope that you're successful.

Hello, Daquan13.

I do not receive Social Security Disability, but I do receive SSI on account of my blindness. Unfortunately, however, my situation is more of a struggle than not...

I have been legally partially blind since birth (about twenty-four years ago). I have been married for a little over four years now. My wife is unable to carry a job because of health issues, although Social Security and MediCal (here in California) do not qualify her as disabled.

I am a student, and I have been looking for work for years now, but to no avail. Employers all have blatantly told me that I would slow them down if I was "on the job" because of my vision. It's quite a struggle for my wife and I, but thankfully God is good to us. In any case, neither of us can make even $10 without having to report it (if there is a paper trail); we are supposed to technically report anything monetary that comes in...And in some cases, they will deduct the extra income from a future check...so it can be tough.

In any case, I am really glad to hear that things are going well for you in your situation with Disability. I am not sure why I do not qualify for Social Security Disability, but they have told me that I am ineligible for it. I'm just praying that I can find a job this Summer and begin to chip away at the debt piling up. Maybe the Rapture'll come soon.

Anyhow, take care.

Hi!

Thank you for your kind words!

Sounds like you and your wife are in the same unfortunate boat that I was in last winter. Financial hardship.

I thought that blindness qualified people to receive disability paymants. Strange how that works, hey?! Incidently, I was approved for disability payments but was turned down for SSI.

I also was turned down for a countless amount of jobs. Sucks because when you're on SSI, you can't make a dime extra, or they'll make you pay it back!!

I have a friend who is in the same boat. He's on SSI, and he once told me that he worked and Social Security found out about it and they made him pay back every penny of the money he was getting for working on the side!!

What it is is that if you're not getting paid under the table, and taxes are being deducted from your money, that's how they find out. It's called the Two-Step Boogie. You try to get ahead one step and they drag you back two steps!! It's a damn shame though!

Your wife should be able to get disability, since she has health issues and can't work. It has to be verified by your doc and hers as well. Or maybe just hers, unless you both have the same doc.

You say that you live in California. You should look into getting a job through the state - a rehabilitation program that helps you find a job that will accommodate your impairment with being able to see properly. It is supposed to work for people like yourself, your wife and myself, you know, people like us who are physically challenged.

Also, there's no doubt in my mind that you both qualify for food stamps and health coverage from the state.

I'm on disability, but I'm also getting two small pensions from two previous jobs as well as working a volunteer job tutoring children at a public school. I get a monthly stipend from it, but it's under the table. No taxes are deducted from it.

Try getting into every hook and cranny. Leave no stone unturned. Get what you feel is rightfully yours. If your wife has filed for disability and was turned down, she has the right to an appeal.

Let me know how you make out. Good luck and God bless!
