Default Rickets making a come-back in U.S. children

Quote:
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Too little milk, sunshine and exercise: It's an anti-bone trifecta. And for some kids, shockingly, it's leading to rickets, the soft-bone scourge of the 19th century.

But cases of full-blown rickets are just the red flag: Bone specialists say possibly millions of seemingly healthy children aren't building as much strong bone as they should - a gap that may leave them more vulnerable to bone-cracking osteoporosis later in life than their grandparents are.

"This potentially is a time-bomb," says Dr. Laura Tosi, bone health chief at Children's National Medical Center in Washington.

Now scientists are taking the first steps to track kids' bone quality and learn just how big a problem the anti-bone trio is causing, thanks to new research that finally shows just what "normal" bone density is for children of different ages.

This is frightening. It's a symptom of the lack of basic health education in the U.S., I'm afraid. The fast-food, couch-potato lifestyle has dire consequences; a fact which many appear oblivious to.
For just an instant, have a glimpse, a vision, of life through my eyes. It is a staggeringly joyous perspective, a view of how each person's choices can make their own life better. It is a vision of the possible, of how things can and should be.

This is one of those diseases that were still around in the '50s,
like polo and tuburculosis.
Man: "You're running at 1550. The house is lit" Little Boy: "Mom, can we keep him?"

I think you'd find similar trends in many developed countries. Whilst not stating it not so bluntly as some the answer does lie in good education about looking after yourself. How this happens with such large scale disrespect for our bodies is a complex problem to solve.
