| In some places "chemists" means the same thing as "pharmacists" does in other places. I think the poster was referring to asking a professional, who works with medicine, vitamin supplements, etc., for a recommendation. My suggestion: cut back on caffeine and alcohol, eliminate tobacco, and eat foods that are fresh or prepared using fresh ingredients. Don't eat fast food, pre-prepared foods, packaged foods. Do this for at least a week and see how you feel. |

| Commentator | Eat primarily complex carbohydrate from things like pasta, rice, bread (multigrain is best overall) and potato. Carbohydrates are what give you most of the energy your body uses and stores, that can be accessed pretty quickly. In all cases the more natural varieties are better, so whiter ones that have usually been modified have had some of the nutrients removed should be eaten less often. This doesn't mean never. After that, things like green leafy vegetables are great because they're high in iron which helps with energy production. Other types of veggies and fruit are vital too as they give you vitamins that also help in energy production. If you feel lethargic, don't be tempted to have a lot of something sugary, have a sugar based food but in a small quantity and wait to see if it works before having more. Jelly beans are great to have around for this. |

| if you happen to be poorly hydrated, you may get more benefit from drinking enough water than you would from any particular food. food isn't particularly useful for energy unless you've gotten your body used to using it rather than storing it, which means exercising regularly over a period of time. |

i'm surprised nobody has mentioned bananas. they provide a slow release of energy, as opposed to sugary things that provide a quick high and big low. they also contain lots of zinc and potassium.

Electrolytes may not boost energy per se, but they sure help prevent fatigue.

| What I know is that when I feel energy-less, I just take some energy drink from the fridge(Bison/Power Horse/ or whatever is in there). Definitely not healthy at all(don't know how unhealthy though), but is of use when I'm in a hurry or something... Extreme Coder |
