fine helix and wofl.. i would like to know, the time needed (probably number of days) for a new egg to get ready for fertilization, after menstruation every month.. i'm getting the information from search engines, but its too biological to understand.. in brief, what is the time period after menstruation to have a safer intercourse..

about 5 to 7 days but there are big differences between different women according to my wife.

And I hope with safe you mean safe from fertilisation nad not from diseases.

I wouldn't bet on this method anyway.

the highest probability of fertilization is between 9th and 20th day from after menstruation, supposing the cycle has 28 days.
if it's longer/shorter, the range is longer/shorter as well. if the cycle is irregular, you can't count on that at all.

the ovulation (release of an egg) usually occurs between 12nd and 15th day and it can be theoretically fertilized from this time till the end of the cycle. however, the sperms can survive a few days inside and wait for an egg to be released, and the 'older' egg is 'more difficult' to be fertilized -> therefore the range is like 9--20th day.

i just have to say that it never is really save...

the only more or less save method is the condom and/or the pill

the best thing for you would be to talk to your doctor about this

Yeah, you can ask. Just try to keep things in the realm of respectful and polite, or at least clinical. Thanks.

Another thing that should be made clear: whenever you read "X days after menstruation", that means after the START. So if the girl ovulates 9 days after a 5 day period, that's only 4 days after she stops bleeding. However, sperm can live in the woman for up to 5 days, and fertilize an egg at any point during that time, so basically, you don't have a "window". At least, not a guaranteed safe window.

I personally know at least 3 people who were born as a result of their parents using the "natural rhythm" method. Condoms suck, but unwanted pregnancies suck more.

You now know of 7 as 4 of my 5 kids were concieved due to trusting in the 'rhythm' method. That was during our christian daze..

Use real birth control - that or have the number of a obstetrician or abortion mill handy.

Just out of curiosity - where are you from?

In Ireland the Rhythm method was commonly used thoughout the 60's and 70's as the Church made it clear it was the only method it allowed.

The result of this was 50% of the population under 25 years of age in the 80's.

The Rhythm method just does not work.

Women ovulate (approx)14 days before their period arrives. For most women on a 28 day cycle that is 14 days from when they start bleeding.

I hope you've taken heed and spoke to a doctor regarding your options, not only are you at risk for possibly an unwanted pregnancy, but also you are at risk for any number of diseases out there...If and when you decide that you are ready for children, you could also be risking the life of any future children you plan on having if you have a disease and pass it on to them....So please, be careful.....!
Hope you don't mind the personal question, but what about your partner? Are they also taking some of the responsibility of avoiding any unexpected pregnancies? Or is it all up to you?
That's MS.BITCH to you....

It's simply the name for only having sex within a "safe window" as a method of birth control.

Another argument against the rhythm method: sex can be better for the girl when she's ovulating, because that's when her hormones are telling her she should be having sex. So, not only does it not work, it can end up not being as pleasurable.

Well, from what I've heard, it's pretty effective at producing children, so if that's your goal, then go for it. But if you want to have sex without having kids, then you need some kind of birth control.

My friend was only having sex just before and after her period as she didn't want any more children. She is now pregnant.
