| Commentator | So, I post two other forums quite a lot where posters are something like 95-99% mothers, and probably around 80-90% nursing... and so over there we're all totally pro-breastfeeding and breastfeeding in public, and I was just wondering what your all's views are Especially as I relize that this board is kind of the opposite of there (ie, probably 95% male ... So yeah, what do you think? Is bf in public OK with you? (And yes, for the record I do breastfeed in public nearly every time I leave the house - walmart, kmart, grocery store, restaurant, anywhere and everywhere, and absolutely nothing you say will change that ![]() |

| I don't have a problem with it, Babies have to eat... It seems to me that as long as the mother is covering herself up, and I can't imagine why she wouldn't, it shouldn't be a big deal to anyone. My wife couldn't nurse our daughter, but we do have to feed her in public a lot (church, restaurants, friends houses) and if she was nursing she would have fed the baby where ever we happened to be. | Why should she have to cover herself up? The primary purpose of a woman's breast is to feed babies. The pathetic puritanical prudishness of our society should be purged. |

what i'd like to know is where does this idea that some part of our bodies should not be shown comes from ? who started this trend and, most importantly, why ? is this a way to reject the fact that we're just animals with a bigger ego ? | |

| Commentator | I "cover up" if you count babies head over the top of my boob and most of my stomach - but if you choose to look you will almost certainly see the sides of my boob... but then, you've almost certainly seen as much on the cover of magazines, so poohy to you if it offends you ![]() |

| This may be perpetuating the problem, but it seems to me that she would cover herself if only to avoid the stares she would otherwise obviously attract. But I guess when you come right down to it, it should be a choice made by the woman in question. Maybe it's just a question of ones opinion of modesty, for example, I can tell you that my wife would not have breastfed in public without some sort of cover over her and the baby. Conversely, my brother-in-laws mother did breastfeed all her children, and while she was not completely exposed she didn't make any heroic attempts to cover herself either. She did, however, draw a lot of attention, especially from young boys/men when she was feeding her baby in public. So while my wife is someone who almost actviely avoids drawing attention to herself, my brother-in-laws mother didn't seem to mind. Draw what conclusions you like... On a side note, I do have to say Taj, I have a lot of respect for you for being so forward and upfront about all this. It's not something you would normally see discussed on a forum full of guys. Props to you. ![]() Last edited by murlosad : 05-17-2007 at 09:01 PM. |

| Spring Brings Nudity to Vermont Town | The Huffington Post "Resident Theresa Toney said she was dining at a downtown restaurant when she spotted this spring's first naked person. She looked out the window "and saw a man in his 60s walking up and down Main Street totally nude," she told the Brattleboro Reformer newspaper. "This is indecent exposure where it doesn't belong." |

| Breastfed my 3 kids for more than a year each. I did breastfed them in public, covering up as the OP said. I even had to go to the bedroom at a friend's house because some of the public there was feeling uncomfortable. Most important thing to me was they need to eat and be close to me. And I left them walk away from breastfeeding when they felt like it. |
