Back when i started lifting weights in 2000 i didnt have a plan. but as time progressed i developed a pretty good plan. gym 2 days / runing 1 day. and repeat. havent taken a day off in 3 years. only do one musclce group per day. run 3 miles uphill on running day on empty stomach.

I don't have a "plan" so-to-say, but I do enjoy walking and hiking a lot.

Oh, I have great plans for exercise...getting around to actually doing them, well, let's say that I'm motivationally challenged and too easily distracted.

I use a treadmill for 45 minutes most days as part of my downsizing regimen.

Daily meditation and energetic walks keep me centred and on track.

Have you considered (or are doing) some weights as part of that regimen too? Resting metabolic rate is a large part of your daily energy use, resistance exercise spares or increases lean-mass, the most important factor in resting metabolic rate.

Resistance exercise also has many other benefits for weight loss. The most effective way to lose fat is to combine a sensible diet (small restriction of intake), endurance exercise and resistance exercise.

at times like this ,i should have gone fishing 24 hours in a day,24 stubbies in a carton, coincidence.?

I saw a sign that said:-caution small children playing,so i slowed down.then i remembered i am not scared of small children

I don't have a plan as such, but I have recently decided to try and keep healthy and now play basketball and football any chance I get, and I generally do a lot of walking due to being in the city quite a lot with no money for buses / trains.

i lift weights everyday (olympic lifts and deadlifts) and i've just started a sprint workout that i'll try to do two days a week. i've concentrated on building strength for a while and now i want to turn a little more focus towards endurance.

Nah.. Not really. Any plan related to health never actually worked with me, however wierd they are. It just doesn't work with some people. But then, the last time I tried one was 3 weeks ago..

Yes, I do weights as part of my regimen. I've gained a little lean mass, but as far as I'm concerned, maintaining what I have will be more than enough -- according to my body fat percentage I have 96 pounds of lean mass. According to BMI, women of my height at the low end of the healthy range should weigh... 97 pounds. So... yeah.

No, no, I'm not healthy yet -- I have 70 pounds of fat on top of the lean mass. My point is, I have significantly more lean mass than the BMI folks expect a woman my height to have. I'd have to lose about 20 pounds of muscle () to safely weigh 97 total.

I see, well at least you know what you're doing to get there. Having that lean mass is going to make your task far easier.

I'm in a similar position, though male. I have a tone of lean mass, just plenty of shit on top of it. This summer I'm going to look to getting back on a very strict diet and exercise plan and the idea is to lose 15lbs while putting on 5 or so pounds of lean mass. The goal is to feel and look healthy and right now neither applies.

Second year of college and these two years have done hell to me... I'm up about 25lbs total and I'm positive that I've lost lean mass. I'd like to lose 35 or so total, even then the shitty BMI calculators would put me at pretty overweight, but like you said Cygnet-- they don't take into account the amount of lean mass I have going for me.

BMI is a great tool for its intended use. The problems occur when it's applied too generally, without taking adiposity, muscle and general fitness into account. People expect it to be a) completely accurate rather than a guide and b) apply to everyone.

It doesn't work for athletes, people who do lots of regular exercise, younger people or older people (except with different data sets and formulas). It does work in most cases for sedentary people who are carrying excess fat.

It is encouraging to see the people here taking a more complete look and seeing things like lean-mass as part of the picture, it leads to healthier outcomes

I have rheumatoid arthritis in addition to injuries sustained many years ago when I was run down by a man who was in all likelihood drunk.

I walk almost every day, about 2 miles, sometimes more. Other than that there is not much I can do. I went to the local pool until it got to be too expensive to do that. It was a hassle to walk home all wet (wetsuit) but I would still do it were it not so costly. It is costly to operate a heated pool year round, so I understand why they have to charge so much.

So that is my "plan", to walk every day if I can.
