I am 24 years old, live in new york city and want a vasectomy. I do not want kids at all. I was wondering if any of you had one done and could perhaps tell me where to begin in this process? Please, if you are going to answer my post don't try to "change my mind" I am not religious nor do I believe in marriage. I have other reasons that i will keep to myself. ANy help is appreciated. Also what type of cost and after care should I be aware of.

why would i need counselling. i figured since there was alot of guys here id ask. lol

You certainly do. Self inflicted vasectomies are quite dangerous.

Seriously, its such a minor op there are no issues. You may be required to have counselling first, although I doubt it in the US. It takes about half an hour.

Unless you go to a real butcher, its reversible (if for some reason you change your mind).

Good for you, to take responsibility. I suggest you go to your local Planned Parenthood. They have male volunteers at some clinics, some of whom have had the procedure and can tell you about it. Then if you are sure that is what you want, it can be done in their clinic.

First. Read EVERYTHING you can about the subject. Make damn sure you are ready to do this. Life at 30 is different than life at 24. There are some that say it is reversible, but it isn't totally a guarantee. Plus, once you have someone cut into your scrot, it isn't something you want to repeat (TRUST ME).

Knowledge is key...How about a nice condom. It covers the fertility aspect and protects you from all sorts of other nasty things. Surgery is a very final thing.

I hope you have less problems than I did. The local anaesthetic did not work, so I had to have a full and frank discussion with the surgeon along the lines of:- "Now we are not going to hurt each other are we." I was then administered a much higher dose of local anaesthetic.
Three day after the op. I had swelling and bruising of dramatic proportions. (I asked my doctor if he could give me something to take away the pain but keep the swelling.)
He answered:- "It does look as if the ******** used two bricks, doesn't it."
It took three months for the bruising and swelling to disappear.
