Default Sarcasm, here and elsewhere?

Inspired by Rasczak's "hijack this thread" where i think i kinda blew it.

How do you use sarcasm on forums, how do you show that you're being sarcastic when writing.

Understanding english is not hard, at least not the words, but it's not always easy to read what's between the lines. I mean, coming from the danish language where sarcasm is mixed up with almost every second sentance, i find it hard when writing in english, to find a sarcastic and not a "mocking" tone.

So whats your formula, enlighten me please

I wouldn't worry about it. I don't know what happened in the other thread, but thinking people can usually read the content in context and know if you're being sarcastic.

Your English is great btw, better than a lot of Americans you'll see post.

It's more a wish of gaining a little knowledge, than a worry

Sorry, I didn't mean to be condescending or anything. I just meant to say that if there was a breakdown in communication, it wasn't on your part.

No don't apologise, i got your point, you weren't being condescending.

The thread is just a chance for me as a forigner, to get more insight in the use of sarcasm in the english language.

How i use it in real life and here are two different things.

In real life i have a bodylanguage and the sound of my voice / expression of words, to help. But in a text based communication like here i can't pull those things into a conversation.

Smiley's on the other hand, are a substitute for those two things, but will never cover the whole specter, as sarcasm are a complicated way of communicating with another person.

I have a very dry wit that a lot of people find difficult to get. Sarcasm runs riot through my forum posts and I am one to be brutally honest. As you can probably tell, I am not that popular on most forums and only a little bit more popular in person

I am pretty much stuck in my ways and find that if someone doesn't get me, it is best they figure this out from the start, so i don't really try and be different
