| Eligible for a custom title | Well if you follow the "cause and effect" saying, the patient ought to pay for it. But if you think about who took it of the shelves, the off duty officer and the two nurses ought to pay. But if the manager is stupid enough not to see the value in this story as a commercial or word-of-mouth-extra-sale i think he ought to pay. Still, you can compare the scenario with an officer borrowing a car from a civilian, in order to prevent a catastrophe. The civilian probably gets to pay for gas in the end. |

| Quote: This is an outrage..why cant the manager be merciful and write it off as some kind of tax loss in the daily documented inventory..why is this such a big deal..cannot Walgreens be sparing/merciful to someone in their time of need..its not like this happens on a day to day basis..gracious..too bad it wasnt him instead since he wants to be cold as ice..shame on Walgreens..maybe that particular one should be boycotted just to show the same indignity as he shewed forth a paying customer.. The meters vary in prices.. from the $100's on up..just depends..but you can get free meters from almost any company if your indeed diabetic..its the supplies that run expensive.. Sherri | |

This reminds me of a story in my life. I purchased a dodge vehicle from Suntrup. Before I bought it we went on the test drive and for some reason the salesman drove..which that in itself said something to me was wrong.. Ok..I bought it..off I go..all the salesmen are waving away..I am driving off and realize the blinker turn does not work at all..so I immediately turned around and said this must be fixed now..as this is a brand new vehicle and I will not pay to have it fixed..boy were they shocked. Ok..had to get a rental car..they wanted me to pay..I said no way..this is to be used free because I just purchases a brand new vehicle and its not my problem that it was not up to par for purchasing..I will not pay to rent a car..the rental guy and me went round and round..until I won..had the car for 3 days free, just had to pay coverage on insurance.. I brought it back,, spotless, a full tank of fuel, and this rental salesman raided the car as if I was a drug-dealer checking out every little spot..I watched him carefully then addressed him with a look of disgust when he finished. I said..and I quote..( Oh please do note the tank is full and would you like to check under the hood for any other possible discrepancies ) he didnt say a word. Well its a little off to what you mentioned but its a dog eat dog world. Sherri

| the wicked one | We had a similar case not far away from my flat. A man slipped and fell because of this his Adam's apple blocked his windpipe. A nurse was standing a few metres away, she and her boyfriend took a knife and a biro to cut his throat open and to create a artificial trachea. Ambulances and Police arrived, (polices always accompanies an ambulance if something happens in public) and one the manager asked the police who's going to pay for the two items. The police gave him a provisional cheque. In the end the women's health care paid the bill because a nurse was the helping her. There was a discussion what would have happened if it would have been a regular person helping her, and that this would have been the case the state had to pay it, and that stealing to help a person from dying in this case would still be illegal but exempt from punishment. This does only apply for this Bundesland, I'm not sure about the situation in other ones. I think it's technically shoplifting and someone has to pay for the item. It may be the state, healthcare, the person who took the item or maybe the shop owner. Imho this should be paid by healthcare or the state. But I don't think anyone should get arrested for this |

Hi, delilaljed44! I agree!! Why can that cheap tightwad stingy manager see that it was a life-&-death situation, and that the 2 nurses and the officer did what they had to do to try to keep the woman from dying? If it was me, I'd want them to do the same thing! I'm also a diabetic, and if I go too long without any food in my stomach, my glucose level also starts to get dangerously low. And I've also had those attacks many, many, many times!! I become weak, dizzy and start sweating profusely! It happened about a month ago on the way home. Twice!! I had to buy some food at a concession stand, eat it while sitting on a bench, and then I had to sit there for 15 minutes until my strength came back!!! If some kid wanted to rob me or beat me up, I would not have had the strength to fight him off! This is a very serious thing, and that manager should not have taken this lightly, because had he tried to stop the woman from receiving immediate medical attention, she might have died and he would have been held liable and sued by her family!! ![]() Last edited by Daquan13 : 05-13-2008 at 04:28 PM.

| A mess situation, but interesting too. Technically, the people who took them off the shelves and used them are responsible for the debt. But, it does seem to me like an ideal time for the shop to step in and say 'the items are complementary in this case as a symbol of our care for our customers'. Publicity is important in business, and while 'all publicity is good publicity' is true to an extent, positive publicity is much much better than negative publicity. I can imagine some people might choose to no longer shop there after reading this story, or hearing about it in exaggerated, second hand ways. If this happened in the USA, wouldn't there be a potential law suit if the situation was established that Walgreens do not permit life-saving merchandise to be used in emergency situations without being paid for? Not that I support such frivolous law suits, but in the land of McDonalds being legally responsible for their customers' obesity, I think almost anything is a possible law suit, meaning potential millions in damages. Then again, perhaps there is already some legal precedent from a similar case - no idea on that. Last edited by kevmartin : 05-13-2008 at 05:18 PM. |

Hi Kevin! I tell you almost anything goes here in the states..I was shocked that the Muslim women here were still ordered to not where there veils when getting their drivers license. It was an issue to them because they were not to reveal themselves..one more push and I wonder if it would have been granted anyway..Everything else seems permitted, that is out of kelter. So why not allow them their so called born rights here as well. Oh too bad they have to remove their veils..uh yaaaaaa your people came here to kill us..well not all..and I am aware of that. I mean c-monnn wear a veil? for proof of identification? you might as well have a child make a color drawing for your picture..wow..who are these people.. ok..point being..yes seems today the worm under the rock has slithered to the surface and lives..( CORRUPT ATTORNEY ) so anything can be applied. Today..if I fell at a restaurant..and its my fault I can collect on behalf of the owners investment. Go figure..thats why everyone wants to live here. I love America..but it needs to buckle down.. | Stirrer Of Shit | How boring. We're much better at frivolous lawsuits than that, it'd be more along the lines the victim who's life was saved sues the people who helped him because the juice they gave him was a brand he didn't like and it cost him $5 million dollars in mental anguish. |
