Would anyone be interested in a darker style with a black background?

maybe not so dark - why not add a poll with options for, say, light, medium or dark backgrounds?

i would prefer a light blue background - white is a bit too harsh for my tastes.

I prefer blue, there's another forum, where I use dark-blue, and like it very much.

One ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them.

I find the current one easier to read than greenfox but something softer than the current white would be nice.

I like it as it is, but isn't there a user option to change themes and skins? Or is it for all users?

It would be user option of course for example in the lower left corner of the forums you can choose a fluid layout as compared to the standard fixed width layout that we currently use.

I wouldn't mind a more distinctive style - the current style seems a bit generic. Maybe you could go for a style with a little more artwork.

The problem with white text on a dark background is that it tends to be harder to read in places where there's a lot of glare on the screen.

What might work is a style where the background and such is dark, but the text boxes with forum posts and the meaty content is white with dark text. Ars Technica and Phoronix use that sort of style on their front pages (though not on their forums.)

Yes, would like to see this. Maybe a variant of the dark/green theme with a blue used instead?

Definitely agree. The current style seems like a template, and it's hard on the eyes.

I'd use it, 100% serious. I love pink.

EDIT:
I'd appreciate a couple of choices. If possible I'd like some more smiley themes as well, allthough it's not that big of a deal.
