Default Online FPS gamers

Are there any FPS gamers out there?

I have been playing computer games since I was 14, and I'm now 42! The most common response I get from others is "what the heck are you doing playing games at your age?"

I have been a member of a clan for about five years now. The community life of FPS gaming is great. I love the challenge and the camaraderie of game playing.

I am currently playing World of Padman.

It is a Quake 3 mod that became a standalone game, it's totally cross platform, works like a dream in Linux.

IS very cool, and the maps are great.

I try to play Counter-Strike when I can, although I upgraded to Vista and have been unable to play games at all. I miss it ...and withdrawl is setting in.

TBH, I only played CS once online, when I actually had an internet connection. I'd love to play online with one of the FPS games here, but you can't play anything online with 10 KB/s (except play Runescape :P)

Neither this, nor that. I'm on a CDMA telephone line, a wireless phone line for remote area. It provides some sort of crappy internet through a serial port to the reception device. I used to have DSL, though. Sigh...

Played CS for years, played DoD for a long time too, and played CSS brefily. Recently I played a ton of Dystopia (a mod for HL2). That is about it.

Well I'm currently playing Battlefield:2. on a Win-Box. I tried to get it to run on ubuntu with little success. The frame rate was a total disaster and punkbuster wouldn't work. Without Punkbuster you can't play online properly. With all of the settings at minimum I could get 15fps! The same hardware under WinXP I have the settings maxed out completely and I'm running 60-80fps.

The clan I'm in are starting to scratch around for a new game, there are a couple of hopefuls coming out soon. I really hope we go for Quake Wars, this will be out for Linux about a month after the PC release. The game looks really cool, lots of team work not a fragfest. Also it's a game that doesnt require DirectX 10 to run so the guys wont feel the need to run Vista. It will also open the clan to new members that run Mac's and Linux. More the merrier I like diversity, it makes for a more interesting clan life...

Anyone interested in BF:2 or the possibility of playing Quake Wars once it's out, drop by our forum for a chat. We are a UK based fps clan, the min age for membership is 21 but most of us are around 40. A bunch of weekend warriors that spend their evenings chatting on teamspeak, playing BF:2 and often getting a little drunk... Think of it as a virtual pub, well that's how we think of it.

PS. our forum is getting spam-bot member sign ups at a rate of 3-5 a day. We have to delete these new spam-forum members regularly so if you sign up please try to put something in that will identify you as a real person...

You have to try BZFlag. I posted this elsewhere, but it is the most fun addictive free online FPS game I've played to date.

It's not bad m8, just so long as your having fun... I love my on-line gaming, but I think I would have given up on it if it wasn't for the people I play with.

Hello fellow gamers. My son brought me a bootleg copy of Serious Sam a few years ago and I've never turned back. 47 years old and right now it's STALKER. I dual boot with XP Pro (since last August) but would love to play in Linux. I'm going to check out some of the games y'all are talking about.
Hey! Hold my beer and watch this! (gonna be on my headstone)

Try to find yourself a clan, it makes a massive difference to your gaming experience. We have all found that playing online is much more fun than single player. Well playing as part of a team is like taking it to the next level. There is a big social element to it too. I'm typing this on a Friday, I came home from work about half an hour ago. In a couple of hours I will be going to my study with some beer, firing up my gaming rig. The guys will be online, and after a bit of a chat we will get it on...

To a lot of people this all sounds quite sad. A middle-aged man playing computer games with a bunch of other middle-aged men. If your also middle-aged family-man you will know just what we are about. Some personal time with the guys is a great way of having fun. I have long since given up on going out to the pub. the wife is more interested in watching TV.

So there I'll be, chatting with the guys, playing BF:2 and getting more than a little drunk!
