I played them long ago, when I was just a kid, on my cousin's computer. That's been years. I didn't know they had a name back then

MUds... are Multi User Dungeons... they're from way back when everybody (read: not just me was on dialup... so they're all text. Addicting (orused to be...)... Starfleet MUD was the one I was most addicted to years ago...

I still jump on a MUD occasionally. Please, list some that are worth checking out!

I have been playing Dragon's Exodus for about five years or so on and off; it's definitely worth checking out!

If anyone is looking for a MUD client, I've actually written a pretty decent one for Linux. If someone is interested, I'll post it on my website.

I played a few MUDs first quarter of college. I should go back. They were fun, but I have yet to find one that felt really "right" to me.

And I play a ton of Roguelikes on the subject of Rogue and NetHack.

Not unless the solo version counts.

I still play the Hitchhiker's Guide game. I love that white on blue command line stuff. Makes me feel safe and warm and fondly remember my childhood. (The game itself is a year or so older than I am, as was my first computer: an IBM PC-XT.)

I remember telnet-ing to play 8bit mush and Avalon and a butt load of other servers. However, when I found a group to play D&D with I stopped mudding almost immediately

I used to play them a lot, the original MUD, Shades, Dutch Mountains, and some at Uni.

My mate is still well into them, he has dutch mountains running on his linux box, and has also done a lot of stuff with shades.

I recently got interested in building my own, i was curious how the parser works on a good game and started researching it and playing around, just ran out of time after a while, i might pick it up again at some point.

If you're interested... here are some interesting articles on parsers and lexical analysis written by Richard Bartle, one of the guys who wrote the original MUD...

Nah... MUD are so 20th century
Seriously though, I did go to an older friend once, and he was playing this MUD. He was very hooked in it, while I couldn't make out anything of the printed text
