| Okay, this game is simple. I will provide a number. The person below me , without using a calculator, should say if its Prime, or Not Prime. In mathematics, a prime number (or a prime) is a natural number that has exactly two (distinct) natural number divisors, which are 1 and the prime number itself. ie: 2..it can only be divided by 2 and 1 evenly..so lets start this up! so say if its prime or not then provide a number! 6767 Last edited by metaphor- : 05-30-2007 at 10:04 AM. |

The number you mentioned end evenly, and can therefore be divided by 2. Easy one: 109 EDIT: Prime number - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia EDIT: Never mind the lecture, I misread. ![]()

Proving it's not is pretty easy once we found out which number to divide it with. I found your number here: http://www.svobodat.com/primes/PRIMES1T.TXT Sorry, I cheated. :s I won't pick the next one. v_v

| kaminix: I know of only one "easy" way to find a probable prime, but it's not something I could do without program assistance (2^76492 mod 76493 anyone?). I looked up sieves as an alternative, but they seem pretty useless too without help, unless there is some kind of sieve method specifically for larger numbers that I haven't come across yet. 59711 is still up there if anyone's willing to tackle it ![]() Last edited by qtwerp : 05-30-2007 at 04:02 PM.
