Default Spammers in the forums?

Hi, has anyone discovered any generated users who sends spam in this forums yet?

Certainly. I almost invariably am sure to ban them before the second post.

Well, it appears that the spamming behavior has returned as some of the new members who recently joined are spamming some of the threads.

It's annoying, as they've been posting sexually explicit photos of nude men and women having sex.

Hey Its really me..

Why not just ban the weird harolds for evermore?, they seem to be un-usually dim witted upon their acceptance in the forum, no respect.

Hopefully, they ARE being banned, because just giving them a warning might not phase them.

At a forum where I'm an admin, this crap is not tolerated there at all either. I swiftly ban them right away and and then delete their offendiong posts and threads!

As I said in another thread, it is probably a bot or something of that nature. Someone else probably knows more about the technical side of that sort of thing than I.

If you have reported something that is especially bad, and none of the moderators seem to have been around for a while, PM me, I'll see it next time I check email, and I'll make a special trip to JD to clean away the spam posts.

Thanks for helping us out by reporting them.

Ras, I think there may be a way to stop these individuals from getting in here and invading the forum with this stuff.

You'll have to go into the Admin Panel though, and see if there's a provision there for stopping guests from posting or making it so that any new recruits have to get the admin's final approval before becoming posting members.

It will stop others from becoming members right away, but at least, it should help keep out the riff-raff.

I've had to do this at my forum to stop an individual from repeatedly resurfacing, coming back and reregistering himself under newly assumed names after being banned. Give it a try please, and see if it works.

It's the only way I know of that should keep out the bad guys.

Just thought that I'd try to help. Good luck!

That would require action on the administrators part. All the moderators can do is ban and delete posts for the most part.

I'm thinking it's just one person that's signing up repeatedly. There's a captcha phrase on registration that should block all bots. Blocking by IP is easy to get around too, if they really wanted to.

My guess is that they are trying to boost their Google rank, or search engine visibly, by posting more links to their sites. This ups the page rank in google, the more links there are to a particular page.

Hopefully, they will figure out it's a waste of his time to keep posting spam, just to have it deleted.

I've been googeling ip address' when they first register and before they have a chance to post when I can. If the address comes up as spam, I simply ban them at that point.

Whoever the admin is, he or she has to try to get in there and put a stop to those individuals enaging in this sick behavior once and for all.

Seems as soon as the YouTube thread is cleaned up, here they come again to post more spam and offensive posts!

Not so fast!

They're back again!!

Has anyone spoken to the admin about this? This is really getting annoying and out of hand.

It's getting like that other forum where I'm a G-mod. Can only edit or delete, but I can't ban those morons!

I've stopped going there because the admin hasn't been around to get rid of them once and for all!!

There's more spamming posts on the YouTube thread - again!

Looks like the only way to stop them is to lock the thread.
