Default Terms and Conditions for Flames Forum

Would it be possible to set up the flames forum so that you have to check a 'terms and conditions' box to be able to see it? I can see it now because I have a certain number of posts but I'd rather not see it at all.

Ubuntuforums which uses vbulletin do this for their 'backyard' forum. It's a nice way of doing things so that those of us who don't want to be subjected to the Flames forum don't have to be.

I know an easy option is to just not look at it but I'd rather just not have it appear at all. I'd also suggest getting rid of the Flames forum altogether because I believe that it will do more harm than good in the long run but I realise that is unlikely to happen. I would prefer some tough moderating instead. If that annoys people and they leave, so be it.

I second this. I can't see why the forum is needed, other than to give immature idiots an outlet for their ramblings.

I see no problem with having it, but it does seem like we should hide it from those who don't wish to participate.

Thanks for being polite about your suggestion, narayan.

I believe this is being looked at. I will check on the progress of it.

Unfortunately there's an "Opt In" option, but no real "opt out" option that I can see.

I'd like to keep the forum very open, and close it off only to those who don't want to see it. I've hidden it for you, narayan, and will hide it for others who do not wish to see it.

One week on and I've found this a very nice solution to my problem. My attention is drawn back towards the threads of interest and away from all the issues in flames. Thanks again
