Where is everyone?

It say's there are 8,207 members here, but when do they visit? I keep seeing the same people.

And that 'most users online' figure doesn't really make sense to me, either. I don't think I've ever seen more than twenty people on here, at any one time.

I think the past users stats are seriously skewed. Firstly the forum was merged with at least one other. Secondly on the issue of the most on at one time, my guess has always been that was a surge when this forum was announced over at UbuntuForum, which is a very large forum indeed - there may have been an initial surge of people sign up who never became regulars.

Seriously though, the level of participation here is quite abysmal lately - but on the other hand the Backyard at UbuntuForum has picked up again (after becoming very slow when this forum began). Funny that.

I think sometimes the decline of a forum becomes a worsening spiral as when less people are left around to post, the posts get more and more dominated by one or a few people. And when those posts are of a 'tirade' nature, it just gets tiring and makes one feel like moving on.

maybe someone could start a project, say a open source program, and this forum could be its forum.
It might be better if forum members start this project.
Add a subforum about it at the bottom of the page so people have to scroll down through all the interesting threads.. well they might get an account and post on these other subforums as they come there for updates? Maybe??
