| the wicked one | Hmm it seems to me that the forum is slowly dying ![]() People let's just digg some discussions you mind find interesting or tell your friends ![]() I need some fresh capitalists, and Rasczack apparently some Ron Paul fanatics. What about a nice frontpage or a weekly newsletter. My other suggestions with the podcast and cgi:irc chat did not get any responses ![]() |

Occasionally, I check the "Currently Active Users" detail on the home page, to see where everyone is, and what threads are of most interest to the members. There are always guests here looking at either the index or specific threads. As of this moment, there are 8 members and 8 guests online. I've noticed a recent increase in overall civility towards each other in the forums, and I think that's a good thing. Spirited discussion is good, thought provoking, and a real draw to new members, and I hope we all can keep a lid on our tempers when things get heated. Frankly, we've had some problems with this in the past, and I think we've run some people off of the forums with our actions. I also think that reporting trolls immediately for action by the Admins, will also keep it tidy around here. Hopefully, though we are quite diverse in our philosophies, good will towards each other, will attract new members. OC

I must admit that it does seem a bit quiet. the thing is, when the forum was started by Ubuntu_Geek, it was advertised allover Ubuntu Forums so it is obvious that it would get a load of members straight away. Also having some of the UF mods here attracted a lot of the UF crowd too. Then it got sold, the uf mods left and so did the uf members, and there you have it. The good news is that a successful forum always builds up slowly, it needs time to get noticed on the internet by search engines and prospective chatters etc. So chin-up, this is just a bit of a lull, and remember, it's quality not quantity.

There are a lot of "regulars" around here. I notice that, even though we have thousands of members here, it's the same members over and over again in the discussions. Slowly but surely, I think we will begin to see people join and become part of the discussion. The forum is nowhere near critical mass yet, nor is it failing. If we sit around and discuss things, new members will begin to creep into the forum and join in. These things take a while, but there's certainly no problem. I happen to enjoy a "well-knit" community on a forum - obviously not with only three or four members, but not with too many members where it appears to be impersonal and nobody knows one another.

Good points. I think we are seeing a bit of a lull. Probably has a lot to do with the change of ownership. But I think it was occurring anyway, and that just exacerbated it. Ups and downs are natural. The sight started out hot, and then went through the inevitable cool-down. We have something of a fresh start now, and hopefully things will pick up soon enough, as long as those who are still here don't bug out.

Well, we did loose our links on UF. I think there was an issue or something they had against us. When we picked up the site, I had asked the previous owner if he would leave it on there. He agreed. But with the mod/admin fallout we had, we lost those links. I think we can rebuild on our own. It will be a good group of contributing and base members and it should grow. I'm impressed by the activity on the site so far and the topics being discussed.

So... did a bunch of people leave after the little upset over the weekend? This forum is one of my major diversions at work, but the past couple of days have been very slow. ![]()
