me, me, me ;P

Bio:

I'm thirty years old, working as an economy scientist at a multinational corporation in Luxembourg.

I've made my doctors degree in maths (areas of expertise are calculus of probability and economics) two years ago.

Right now I'm living in the German city of Saarbrücken right at the border to France.

I was born and grew up in Italy.

I speak Italian and German fluently, my English and French are O.K. and I learning Japanese right now.

Experience:

I administrate two German forums and am mod of a few others. No English speaking forum so far

I'm what many would call a geek. I'm very common with the Internet, chats, mailing lists.

Involvements: Well, I've mentioned the German forums.
I'm a user of Ubuntuforums.org and several other mainly Linux focused Forums and spent lot of time in the off topic sections.

I've got operator status in the #social-discussion irc-channel on Freenode.

Why should you pick especially me:

I think one of my "advantages" is that with a very socialist, pacifistic and humanistic political direction I'm hated by the Libertarians and Conservatives, to use some stereotypes, exactly the same

And I think my post count shows that I spent much time on this board (without playing much forum games).
regards,
Julian

"universal" mods, or mods for specific departments here?

I've been a moderator on http://debat.jubii.dk/ (currently having trouble i can see ) for about three years, in the "Computer, IT og mobil" department, but quit this spring due to personal reasons. (Username: Reliquiem)

The board have got a little more than 100.000 users, so it's quite large and for the moment having a little trouble handling the pressure. It's also a vBulletin board, like this.

Other boards: Ubuntu Forums and (of course) http://debat.jubii.dk

I would like to nominate fusia if he is interested.

I believe another person worth considering is Jellicletrb, if she is interested.

qtwerp would be another choice if she were still around.

Forgot to add a stipulation to the nomination process, second line. if you think they'd do good, send them a link to this thread and ask them to post.

I wouldn't make anyone a moderator who asks to be a moderator. No offense MRignS.

I suggest you put a little effort into the process, read some threads on your forum, pick out some people who appear to be fairly active, look over their post history to ensure they handle themselves they way you like, then ask them to moderate for you.

Even if you "take applications" I still hope you'll look through their post history.

^^,

If you choose someone from these forums, I assume you will read their posts prior to selecting them.

Better to find objective people upfront, than suffer the consequences of someone "moderating" to a personal agenda later on...

Edit:

Sorry Eric, I was composing while you posted.

Ditto what you said.

No problem, I understand what you mean and I'm not sure I would have asked without this thread appearing on the board.

I want to make clear that I think I can differ between the job as a moderator and posting my opinions and discussing with other users without banning them for disagreeing with me.

Julian

I'd also try to get people on the moderator team that come from various ends of the spectrum.

I'll volunteer. This community matters a lot to me. I have no experience moderating. I think I'm pretty decent at working with people, and I don't get emotionally worked up. I have over 1,000 posts, so it should be easy to figure out what I'm like on here.

BNS and I have had some hearty disagreements, but its always been constructive as far as I can remember. I can vouch for the fact he leaves emotions out of it.

Iandefor would make an excellent Mod here. Especially for an open free thinking forum that I believe you are aiming for.

Right now, I'm not sure I'd be willing to apply because:

1) I've held both the position of administrator and moderator on three different forums. It isn't quite as prestigious as it sounds.
2) Due to my political stance (which is something of a rarity on this forum apparently), I'm not sure I'd make a popular moderator here.

A good moderator needs to always act in fairness and with objectivity. Only two people I've seen nominate themselves thus far, in my opinion at least, fit those criteria: Iandefor and bns. If I were an administrator here (and I have plenty of experience of that elsewhere), they are the two I would seriously consider. Choosing good moderators is of utmost importance; bad moderators can seriously alienate the members of a forum. Choose carefully.

Exactly. Being moderated by the same guy who called you "disgusting" a few weeks before is a hard pill to swallow.

there is nothing wrong with a moderator having political stances or personal opinions as long as he puts those aside when he puts his mod's hat on.

Like I say, if it is someone who has so little self control they've called you "disgusting" based only on your views, its going to be really hard to shake the perception of bias.

I disagree with BNS all the time. Ask him who suggested he apply.

Edit: I'll put it this way - would you be happy to see me as a moderator here? Didn't think so. Half this forum would probably leave.

that's a personal opinion that he was posting as a regular member. you didn't like it obviously but i don't think he broke a rule or lost his control.

well we disagree more than we agree but i have no idea how you would act if you had to moderate a thread. i think Vorian was at odd with most of the forum on some issues but i haven't heard anyone complain about his work as a mod ...
