Find my own way? Hell, I'm the best there is at it!

It's a given that people are supposed to agree or disagree and discuss - or should be anyway. But he cleared up what he was trying to say.

I think (healthy) disagreement is what drives a lot of discussion. If people agree with a post, they are more passive in reaction to an idea. If they disagree, they tend to interact more.

Yeah, he posted while I was composing my message. Oh well.

I think a nice thread starter is to point out a set of facts that are, on the surface, contradictory or counterintuitive. Thus people naturally want to discover the deeper explanation behind the contradiction.

Another thread-starter I've seen in forums is for the OP to challenge an ill-thought-out piece of conventional wisdom. Of course, the challenge must be original, no one wants to rehash trite issues.

Those things said, I don't think I've started any threads on this forum.

Really there isn't a lot to say as everyone has their own versions of what they think is interesting. I think simply allowing people to start a topic as long as by the rules without the hate comments, etc...is about as free as it gets. A general discussion is usually the key. Other than that, all you can do is post a general guideline to help those who may want help in posting..

1. Be interesting

2. Make it your own instead of a simple link to another source, maybe both but not just a link, include your own view.

3. Be original as possible

4. When asking opinions, accept all opinions without bias for the purpose of discussion

5. Don't start a hate topic, eg...MS sucks and should be burned down!! more like ... why I don't like MS.

6. When starting a new topic, keep to the thread topic.

Just some things on that order. I don't think you can ask much more really.
